Hades 2: How To Get Cinders
There is no shortage of resources, currency, and reagents to fill up players’ inventory slots in Hades 2. Cinders are one of the more important and difficult reagents to find, as only one character in the game drops it. To expand Melinoe’s arsenal of available weapons, gaining Cinders is an essential task.
There are many methods to acquire currency and buffs in Hades 2. Room rewards, incantations, and Charon’s Chests are just some of the methods to acquire the game's best and most important resources. Cinders are abnormal because there is only one source for the reagent. In Hades 2, the rarest materials are often the most valuable, as with this element. Farming Cinders takes time, patience, and, most importantly of all, knowledge.

How To Get Cinders In Hades 2
The only way to get Cinders is to defeat Headmistress Hecate in Erebus. Erebus is the first region of the Underworld that Hades 2's Melinoe will progress through to reach the surface. As with the original game, each zone has a boss that stands as a final obstacle and caps off your journey throughout a given section of the game.
Hecate, seemingly Melinoe’s Witch ally, stands as the final boss for the initial section.
As Hades 2 is a roguelike, every death means you need to restart your perilous run through the Underworld from the beginning. This also means you will likely become acquainted with Hecate’s fight after several deep runs.
No matter how often you defeat Hecate, she will always drop a Cinder. Although Hecate is the first boss in Hades 2, she is by no means a freebee, as her fight has plenty of mechanics that you will need to master to farm Cinders successfully.
How To Use Cinders In Hades 2
Unlock Fire-Based Incantations
In Hades 2, Cinders are used to unlock a fire-based weapon and incantations for Melinoe. There are five total weapons that Melinoe can unlock and swap between, including the Witch Staff, Sister Blades, Umbral Flames, Argent Skull, and Moonstone Axe. Cinders are only used to unlock the Umbral Flames weapon, which focuses on ranged, fire-based combat.
Cinders aren’t the only reagent that unlocks both the Umbral Flames and related Incantations. Below are all recipes that require Cinders, as well as other necessary reagents:
Item Description Reagents Required Umbral Flames A ranged weapon that deals fire-based damage. x3 Cinders x3 Silver Permeation of Witching Wards Unlocks an alternate path to the surface. x1 Cinder x1 Shadow x3 Moly Consecration of Ashes Grants upgrades to unlocked Arcana Cards. x6 Ash x1 Cinder x6 Fate Fabric Moonlit Essence from Shadow An Incantation that helps unlock Moon Dust reagent. x1 Cinder x1 Shadow
As you may tell from the table above, there are plenty of reagents besides Cinders that you need to farm in Hades 2. Ashes, Silver, Moly, and more are all required for many different recipes, ranging from incantations to Arcana Cards.
Generally, if you spot something that looks useful on a run, then be sure to pick it up. To succeed in Hades 2, you not only need to make sure you master the mechanics of combat but also stay well-stocked with buffs, resources, and boons.
