How To Unlock Fishing (& Get The Tool) In Hades 2
Hades 2 isn’t all about clearing the Underworld of enemies and usurping the Godly order, although this is a clear priority for Melinoe. Unlocking tools for gathering resources, including fishing, is equally important to stock up and prepare for runs. Unlocking fishing and the fishing pole tool isn’t difficult, but it does require a surprising amount of time and resources.
Merchants and vendors are a big part of Hades 2. Characters like the Wretched Broker and other Shade merchants sell extremely valuable goods. Ashes, Bones, and other resources are necessary to gain other buffs, such as Arcana Cards. Fish are a great way to help gather the materials needed to make larger purchases. Although you can’t get through the Underworld with fish alone, it can be an overlooked part of the game.

How To Unlock Fishing In Hades 2
Getting The Fishing Rod
To eventually unlock fishing, you must first unlock the Night’s Craftwork incantation. This is unlocked relatively early in the game by visiting the cauldron found in the Crossroads, where you respawn after each run.
The Night’s Craftwork incantation only costs one Moly to unlock, so you can access this incantation as soon as you first run through Erebus. After this, you can start unlocking tools at the training grounds, where you can interact with Schelemus and select your weapon for Melinoe before delving into Erebus.
Much like Hades' Zagreus, Melinoe can't stay on the Surface for too long. Use this time effectively to farm useful materials, such as bronze.
Simply unlocking tools isn’t enough to automatically gain the Fishing Pole. You need to acquire two reagents to complete the process: one bronze and two Fate Fabrics. Bronze is locked at the Surface, which is locked until you defeat Headmistress Hecate multiple times and gain the resources to craft the Permeation of Witching-Wards Incantation.
To mine bronze, you must first unlock the Crescent Pick, which can also be used to gather silver. Fate Fabric is obtained from Arachne or the Wretched Broker in exchange for Bones.
How To Fish In Hades 2
Every Fish & Their Values
In Hades 2, aside from the Surface, you can fish anywhere that water is present. You will be met with a fishing prompt whenever you approach a body of water anywhere in the Underworld.
Fishing isn’t a particularly active process, as you are randomly awarded one of five fish seemingly native to Erebus and the realms of the Underworld beyond. Below are the fish you may expect to receive and their value in Bones, per the Wretched Broker.
All Fish Values
Fish Value Thalamus 19 Bones Moper 21 Bones Soby 24 Bones Roach 34 Bones Mati 66 Bones
If you don’t feel like fishing yourself, then you can eventually unlock Thoula. This is a familiar cat unlocked through the Crossroads cauldron. This helpful feline can perform the more mundane or repetitive tasks for you. With Thoula’s help, she can fish for you once per night.
So far, it appears fish are only used to pawn at the Wretched Broker’s shop. You can turn fish in exchange for bones, which can then be traded for ashes. Ashes are a much more versatile type of currency used to fund major purchases, like Arcana Cards in Hades 2.
