Doctor Who season 14 will premiere first on Disney+ on May 10 and then on BBC 1 on May 11, showcasing better production value.
Doctor Who season 14 will soon release its first two episodes. The upcoming season of Doctor Who will star Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, the next Time Lord reincarnation after David Tennant’s brief return to the role for the Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials. In addition to Gatwa, Doctor Who season 14's cast will feature Millie Gibson and Varada Sethu in roles as the Time Lord’s companions.
As of now, this revived era of Doctor Who — which returns the beloved Russell T. Davies as showrunner — has only had two seasons confirmed. Gatwa, Gibson, and Sethu are set to star in both seasons, despite initial rumors that Sethu would replace Gibson in season 15. Despite only being renewed for two seasons Davies has, however, hinted that season 3 of the Doctor Who relaunch is already in the writing stages. In terms of the upcoming season, the air dates and times for Doctor Who season 14 have already been announced.

The first two episodes of Doctor Who season 14 will be released to American viewers on Friday, May 10 at 7pm EST on Disney+. UK viewers will be able to stream the episodes starting at 12am GMT on BBC iPlayer on Saturday, May 11. Following this initial premiere, the episode will air weekly at these times. Doctor Who season 14 is expected to have eight episodes.
The Disney+ release is significant for Doctor Who, as it is the first time that a season will be made available on this platform. For the BBC series, the relationship with Disney has meant an increased budget, allowing them to accomplish better production value. This has included, among other things, better special effects and a bigger, bolder TARDIS set than ever before. The Doctor Who 60th-anniversary specials premiered to success on Disney+ this past fall, boding well for the success of the season as a whole.

Doctor Who season 14’s broadcast premiere on BBC 1 will happen one day later, on Saturday, May 11. The first episode, titled “Space Babies,” will air on the network at 6:20pm GMT. This broadcast will be immediately followed by the airing of Doctor Who season 14, episode 2, “The Devil’s Chord,” which hits the network at 7:05pm GMT. After this premiere, Doctor Who will take the 6:50pm weekly slot on Saturdays.
The BBC 1 timeslot means that Disney+ will be getting Doctor Who several hours before the regular BBC airing. This will be a turn of events from past seasons of Doctor Who, where BBC viewers sometimes had access to the series before American audiences. This release plan just goes to show how essential the Disney relationship is for the upcoming Doctor Who season, for the show is making the Disney audience a priority.
