When That '90s Show Season 2 Part 2 Releases On Netflix & How Many Episodes It Has
Summary That '90s Show part 3 promises to continue the story of Leia Forman's summer in Point Place in 1996, releasing on August 22, 2024.
"Part 3" will have eight more episodes that likely maintain the same 30-minute runtime.
The show is splitting season 2 into two parts, with both parts covering the summer of 1996.
Netflix’s That ‘90s Show season 2 has finally been released, with another batch of episodes still to come before the end of 2024. It’s been almost exactly a year and a half since That ‘90s Show season 1 ended in January 2023, bringing a close to Leia Forman’s first summer in Point Place in 1995. While she lives in Chicago with her parents, That ‘70s Show’s Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti, throughout the year, she’s back in Point Place for the summer of 1996 throughout That ‘90s Show season 2.
The cast and characters of That ‘90s Show return for eight total episodes in the first half of season 2. After the success of That ‘90s Show season 1, the That ‘70s Show sequel series was renewed for an additional 16 episodes, getting closer to the length of the original sitcom’s seasons. Netflix dropped all eight episodes of That ‘90s Show part 2 on June 27 to coincide with the sitcom’s summer vacation setting, but viewers will have to wait a couple of months to see how the rest of the chaos of summer 1996 pans out in part 3.

Why That '90s Show Part 3 Was Moved Up Two Months
Part 3 Was Originally Scheduled For October 24

The That '70s Show spinoff's upcoming episodes were previously set to premiere on October 24, but Netflix has moved That '90s Show part 3's release date up a couple of months. The streamer did not disclose why the episodes were moved up two months. Usually, TV show season premiere dates are delayed, not accelerated. Perhaps Netflix wants to shorten the gap between parts 2 and 3 so as not to lose momentum, or the release schedule wasn't ideal because of competition. Whatever the case, fans get to see what happens after part 2 two months sooner than originally scheduled.
That '90s Show Part 3 Has 8 Total Episodes
Eight more episodes will finish the story of the summer of 1996
Like part 2, there will be eight total episodes in That ‘90s Show part 3. The next batch of episodes is also expected to maintain the runtime of previous episodes of approximately 30 minutes each. It’s unclear why Netflix chose to split That ‘90s Show’s renewed 16 episodes into two parts of eight episodes each, but it seems like they’ll both simply cover the summer of 1996 in Point Place.

However, it’s still possible That ‘90s Show part 3 could extend past the end of the summer and into the fall. With That ‘90s Show part 3 releasing on August 22, it wouldn’t be surprising if the show ended up seeing Leia return to Point Place for holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Part 2 already revealed that she came to visit for spring break prior to the season 2 premiere, so part 3’s eight episodes could explore the rest of the fall 2024 holidays.

Why Netflix Is Calling The Next Batch Of Episodes That '90s Show "Part 3"
It isn't called That '90s Show season 2, part 2 on Netflix

While That ‘90s Show’s first ten episodes were referred to as season 1, the show’s return is being split into “Part 2” and “Part 3,” with season 1 now retroactively becoming “Part 1.” This seems to be so that the show can split up batches of episodes without having to separate them by similar time frames. Parts 2 and 3 seemingly cover the same length of time (summer of 1996) as Part 1 (summer of 1995), so calling it “season 3” may have confused audiences into believing that it would cover the summer of 1997.
Despite the confusion, That ‘90s Show season 2, part 2 and That ‘90s Show “Part 3” are referring to the same batch of episodes, with the latter being Netflix’s official identifier.
Netflix’s TV show The Ranch separated its four seasons into eight individual parts, and it seems That ‘90s Show is taking a similar route. Additionally, That ‘70s Show’s confusing timeline led to plenty of continuity errors between seasons, so That ‘90s Show may be avoiding that by maintaining a linear timeline but without a consistent gap between “parts.” Despite the confusion, That ‘90s Show season 2, part 2 and That ‘90s Show “Part 3” are referring to the same batch of episodes, with the latter being Netflix’s official identifier.
That 90s Show That '70s Show returns set two decades later with That '90s Show, acting as a sequel but bringing back old cast favorites. Led by Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) Forman, the new cast arrives as the next generation, with the daughter of Eric and Donna, Leia Forman, leading the charge. Spending the summer with her grandparents, Leia makes new friends and forges new bonds in Point Place, Wisconsin. That '70s Show series regulars make cameos in the show to maintain that sense of familiarity, and the show adopts the conventions of the '90s as expected. That '90s Show first aired on Netflix with a total of ten episodes.
