DC Sets Up Lex Luthor's Most Powerful Form Every Live-Action Movie Has Ignored

Summary My Adventures With Superman season 2 introduces a new twist to Lex Luthor, setting up a showdown with Superman.

Lex Luthor obtaining Steel's suit in episode 3 sets up for him to make it into his iconic warsuit as the show continues.

The potential power-up for Lex Luthor with the warsuit could make him one of Superman's most formidable foes.

Three episodes into My Adventures With Superman season 2, the DC Universe animated series has suggested a new twist to the Lex Luthor character that has been avoided in live-action films. Having been received with critical acclaim, the animated show has been a success for Adult Swim and Max and has provided a character-focused, romantic tone for its Superman adventures. The series has also set up and utilized many threats directly from the comic books, and seems to be leading to a showdown between Superman and Lex.

This version of Lex Luthor was only recently confirmed to be the villain, having appeared under the name Alex in previous episodes. Like the main cast, Lex is young, and is working his way toward becoming the iconic villain audiences are familiar with. With season 2, episode 3, "Fullmetal Scientist," the show seems to have made a significant jump forward for the character as a villain and a threat. Powerful and bitter, Lex's story has set him up to utilize a powerful asset that has been essentially ignored in the character's most renowned appearances.

My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Sets The Show Up For Lex Luthor's Warsuit

Following a heroic turn by John Irons in the latest episode of My Adventures With Superman, the episode 3 ending shows Lex Luthor taking over the hero's corporation and demanding that he be given access to the Steel suit that Irons built. This is interesting in that the specific mech suit doesn't look that far away from the warsuit Luthor often wields in his more physically imposing appearances, suggesting the scientist will adapt it for his own purposes.

Lex Luthor has worn a robotic warsuit many times throughout DC's history, as it provides the villain with far enhanced battle capabilities. Matched against an impossible foe like Superman, it is only with the assistance of technology that Lex can be an imposing physical threat. While many stories then tend to rely on the intellectual, scheming side of Luthor, it is exciting to see teases that My Adventures With Superman intends to do both, as seeing the villain suit up and fight in subsequent episodes would be an exciting culmination of his story.

My Adventures With Superman's Luthor Warsuit Could Be One Of The Strongest Yet

Close

Previous iterations of Lex Luthor have been powerful in their own way. Lex Luthor can be a physical threat by carrying kryptonite, which has been done several times throughout the character's history in films, comics, and television series. However, as Superman is such a physically powerful character, this has limited the threat that the villain can pose to Clark Kent. Usually only able to hurt Superman by hurting his loved ones, this potential power-up for Lex Luthor lets the villain once again pose a more daunting threat to the Man of Steel.

Various versions of Lex's warsuit have appeared in comic books and video games since 1983. Some iterations are Kryptonian battle armor, while Lex constructs others himself. Though the Steel armor that Irons built is of a terrestrial make, this technology in the series is very strong and will allow Lex to augment it with his improvements to build a weapon that could take down the Man of Steel. With an army of Metallo robots to augment the suit - and Task Force X's resources to bolster him, potentially even with kryptonite - the prospective warsuit could be among Lex's most powerful.

My Adventures With Superman has moved quickly through numerous storylines, introducing and delivering many excellent comic book lore references and stories. As such, a potential warsuit appearance could be a brief one - or one simply set up slowly throughout the course of the new season. Whatever the case, it's clear the future for this version of Superman and Lex Luthor is an exciting one, that could also see one of their most complex battles yet.
