I Refuse To Get My Hopes Up For Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Despite Recent Positive Updates
Summary Pirates of the Caribbean 6's script is almost ready, but Disney's approval is needed.
Margot Robbie's Pirates movie is also in development, adding to the franchise's uncertain future.
The franchise's worth may have stagnated, and slow progress risks diminishing audience interest.
Despite all the recent positive updates surrounding Pirates of the Caribbean 6's development, I refuse to get my hopes up for the franchise's future. Ever since the release of Pirates of the Caribbean's last installment in 2017, I have been hearing rumors and speculations about a potential sequel. While these updates surrounding the next installment in the franchise have kept me invested, I have been growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of substantial progress in the film's development.
Since the movie sequel was seemingly stuck in development hell for quite some time, I had even briefly given up on the idea of ever seeing a continuation of the series. The cycles of announcements, delays, cancelations, and lack of follow-ups on crucial news updates made it incredibly difficult for me to stay optimistic about the future Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Although new updates have forced me to shake off my skepticism to some degree, I cannot help but hold myself back from being excited about what Pirates of the Caribbean 6 might have in store.

The Film's Script Is Almost Ready

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently offered some updates surrounding Pirates of the Caribbean 6's script. He said that the script is already being written and is expected to be ready in a month. The producer also added that they are expecting it to be good, which could prompt Disney to give them a green signal. The writing of the script suggests that the flywheels of Pirates of the Caribbean 6's production are gradually moving forward, raising hope that the film might eventually see the light of day. It may not mean much until Disney approves it, but it is still a step forward.
With so many contradicting reports, I find it hard not to be cautiously optimistic about the franchise's future.
Earlier in May 2024, Bruckheimer had also given new insights into Margot Robbie's Pirates of the Caribbean movie by revealing that Disney was keen on getting the film made. This update was surprising because the Barbie star had previously hinted that the film was not on the cards anymore. With so many contradicting reports, I find it hard not to be cautiously optimistic about the franchise's future. While it is good that Jerry Bruckheimer is still making efforts to move the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie's production forward, the franchise's future is no less uncertain than it has been for the last few years.
Why Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Still Seems A Long Way Off
Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Is Not Happening Anytime Soon

The last installment in the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, premiered seven years ago in 2017. Since over half a decade has passed since the last film's release, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has already taken a long time. From the looks of it, even though Bruckheimer's updates provide a glimmer of hope, the movie sequel is not releasing anytime soon. Once its script gets finalized, the casting process will be another major challenge since it is uncertain whether Johnny Depp will return as Jack Sparrow after all the controversies.

Once the casting is out of the way and the actors' schedules are aligned for filming, Pirates of the Caribbean's production could snowball and gain significant momentum. However, with so many variables still involved in the process, it just seems unlikely that everything will suddenly fall into place for the movie sequel. After reading Bruckheimer's comments, I would like to believe that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is almost on the horizon. Unfortunately, that would be an unrealistic expectation because the script's completion is only the beginning of a long, complex journey that brings the film to the screen.

On several occasions, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has also disclosed that two Pirates of the Caribbean movies are in the works. While the Margot Robbie movie will be a direct sequel, a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot has also been planned. The complex plans surrounding the franchise's future and the diminishing returns offered by each existing sequel in the franchise prove that rough seas lie ahead for both upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Pirates of the Caribbean Movie Budget Global Box Office The Curse of the Black Pearl $140 million $654.4 million Dead Man's Chest $225 million $1.066 billion At World's End $300 million $960.9 million On Stranger Tides $378.5 million $1.0457 billion Dead Men Tell No Tales $230–320 million $794.8 million
Even though Pirates of the Caribbean is still a valuable IP for Disney, I cannot help but question whether its worth has slightly stagnated after so many years of little to no progression. With all the new updates surrounding its development, if the film's production does not move forward soon, the franchise could further risk losing its relevance and even diminish audience interest. While I am glad that Pirates of the Caribbean 6's production is finally gaining some ground behind the scenes, its glacial pace still concerns me.
