I Hope Onyx Storm Features More Of Fourth Wing's Most Underrated Friendship
Summary Imogen and Violet's friendship is one dynamic Onyx Storm should expand on.
Violet and Imogen's enemies-to-friends journey was an underrated part of the first two books.
Expanding on this friendship in Onyx Storm would enrich the story and allow the characters to be emotionally vulnerable.
One hope I have for Onyx Storm is that the story features more of Fourth Wing's most underrated friendship. Violet in The Empyrean Series has forged many great friendships. Her connection to Rhiannon, Ridoc, and Sawyer is both a great backbone and my favorite part of the series. They are especially important as Violet grows distant from Dain and is in need of support as she discovers more of Basigath's secrets. These connections, however, are not the only ones that she will need or that I think will be tested during Onyx Storm.
Fourth Wing's characters in Onyx Storm are going to be facing worse trials than ever before. I am genuinely so nervous for these characters because so many of their journeys and moments have been fascinating, especially when it comes to their connection with Violet. She has had many great scenes with several characters, which makes the possibility of losing even one heartbreaking to me. That being said, I am hoping that one dynamic from The Empyrean Series gets more time to shine in Onyx Storm: Violet and Imogen.

Violet & Imogen's Friendship Is 1 Of The Best Dynamics In The Empyrean Series
Imogen's Journey With Violet Is Heartwarming And Hilarious

Violet and Imogen's friendship is one of the best dynamics in The Empyrean Series because of its growth, which can be explored in Onyx Storm. In Fourth Wing, Imogen's antagonism against Violet led to many confrontations, both verbal and physical. But for me, what was more shocking was how the two began to mend bridges after Violet bonded with Tairn and Andarna. Imogen simply shifted from hating Violet to helping her, though she made it clear it was on Xaden's orders. Still, their moments brought a smile to my face as the two grew to respect each other.
Onyx Storm is set to be released on January 21, 2025.
Iron Flame, however, is why I want Imogen to be one of the Fourth Wing characters featured in Onyx Storm. In the second book, Imogen warms further to Violet, despite her rocky relationship with Xaden. Imogen runs with her and lets her talk about her issues, though she keeps up that same "I don't actually care" front. This led to so many hilarious moments between the two that gave the plot the levity it needed. Their dynamic also showcases how Violet has truly earned every aspect of Imogen's friendship, a fact that should be featured in Onyx Storm.

They Could Provide Much-Needed Emotional Support To Each Other In Onyx Storm
Onyx Storm will hopefully feature Imogen and Violet's friendship, as I think they can provide a lot of emotional support for each other. After the end of Iron Flame, Violet and Imogen will both need support as they cope with Xaden becoming venin. Violet will need help for obvious reasons, but Imogen has known Xaden her whole life. The race for a cure could allow the two to support each other as they try to save someone they both love. This could also allow us to see a more vulnerable side of Imogen, which we have yet to see.
Imogen becoming vulnerable would add more depth to her character, especially if she opens up to someone she saw as an enemy.
Onyx Storm could feature The Iron Squad and their support of Violet, even as they struggle with their own issues. But to me, Imogen and Violet's dynamic would enrich the story, as we have yet to see that kind of genuine moment with them. Imogen becoming vulnerable would add more depth to her character, especially if she opens up to someone she once saw as an enemy. Violet could get some more raw moments in turn, allowing Onyx Storm to be both an emotional and plot turning point for The Empyrean Series.
