One Of Mike Flanagan's Early Movies Finally Sets A Digital Release Date
Summary Hush now has an official digital release date after being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
Shout! Studios will distribute the movie on VOD beginning August 17, 2024.
The movie laid the groundwork for many beloved Mike Flanagan projects to come.
Mike Flanagan's early feature Hush now has an official digital release date. The movie follows a deaf woman being tormented by a killer while on a writing retreat in an isolated cabin. It was well-received by critics, earning a Certified Fresh 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and was so popular that it has been remade twice in India, once in Hindi with 2019's Khamoshi and then in Tamil as Kolaiyuthir Kaalam the same year. The Mike Flanagan movie premiered on Netflix in 2016, but was removed from the platform in April 2023 when the streamer's rights expired.
Now, the official digital release date for the home invasion slasher movie has finally been revealed by Shout! Studios, who are partnering with the director, Intrepid Pictures, and Blumhouse. The project will be available for purchase and rental on VOD platforms for the very first time as of August 17, 2024. More announcements about the release are set to come in the next few months.

Hush Planted The Seed For Many Mike Flanagan Projects To Come
The Movie Cemented A Relationship Between Flanagan And Netflix
It makes sense that Blumhouse, Shout!, and Intrepid would work to make sure the 2016 horror movie continued to be available after departing Netflix. The movie is historically important, as it planted the seed for many of the writer-director's iconic horror projects to come. This includes the fact that it starred several recurring Mike Flanagan actors including Michael Trucco (Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Life of Chuck), Samantha Sloyan (The Haunting of Hill House, The Midnight Club), and Hush co-writer Kate Siegel (Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald's Game, and many more).
Of the entire credited Hush cast, only John Gallagher Jr., who played the killer, and Emma Graves, who played the lead character's sister, have not worked with Flanagan again.
The movie's success on Netflix also laid the groundwork for a fruitful partnership between the platform and the director for many years to come. His later movie and television successes on the platform include The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, Gerald's Game, and more. Perhaps even more importantly, the novel within the movie, which was written by Siegel's character Maddie Young, became the basis for a future popular Mike Flanagan Netflix horror project, Midnight Mass.
It remains to be seen what future announcements are in store for Hush. However, it seems likely that Shout! Studios and Blumhouse will be honoring this seminal Mike Flanagan release with a physical media release at a later date, as it has not ever had a major DVD or Blu-Ray release. Even if that proves not to be the case, it is possible that the company will provide digital special features, as many of the label's physical releases have robust arrays of features.
