Sunday, the last day of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) every year, is a strange affair — yet there are still interesting, must-see panels yet to take place. The panels for the most anticipated movies of 2024 are probably not going to take place on Sunday, when the convention is in the process of wrapping things up. However, some of the more niche Comic-Con panels find their place at this time on the Sunday schedule, and attract those who are especially dedicated to a particular topic.

Some of the best Comic-Con workshops are still happening, while a few major stars make appearances. It is true that most people will want to go to Comic-Con on Friday or Saturday to catch their favorite franchises among the SDCC 2024 Hall H panels. However, the ones that stick around for Sunday will face fewer crowds and lines and find compelling experiences that many others never even thought of attending when they were so focused on the most mainstream parts of Comic-Con.

10 Star Trek: Prodigy

Jack Kirby is one of the most famous and influential creators in comic book history, whose artistic fingerprints are spread across Marvel and DC. He is perhaps most famously one of the creators of Captain America — one of the first 10 classic superheroes — and completed drawings for issues of many of the most iconic superheroes of all time. This includes Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four. This monumental legacy is reason enough for Comic-Con's Annual Jack Kirby Tribute Panel to take place.

Artists who were influenced by Kirby's work are invited to Comic-Con reveal how they were inspired by him, along with some people who knew Kirby personally. This year, the panel comprises cartoonists Patrick McDonnell and Rick Parker, former DC Comics president Paul Levitz, former Kirby assistant Mark Evanier, Kirby's granddaughter Tracy Kirby, and Kirby family friend Dave Schwartz. While the big Marvel and DC panels may be happening on other days, this is a more specific look into superhero history.

8 We Belong: Queer And Black Sci-Fi Fantasy

Stacked Deck Press and Prism Comics have brought together many independent creators to compile We Belong: An All-Black/All-Queer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Comics Anthology. On Saturday, those who contributed to the anthology will be coming together for a Comic-Con panel to discuss We Belong and their individual stories, focusing on the experiences of queer creators and making comics for marginalized communities. This is a well-planned panel as all the people were involved in one project, but still have their own work to speak about.

The panel includes We Belong editors William O. Tyler (creator of Theater of Terror) and Viktor Kerney (StrangeLore). The creators who contributed stories and drawings to the anthology who will also be appearing are: artist Jordan Green, Ajuan Mance (Living While Black: Portraits of Everyday Resistance), Sean Z. Maker (Myth), Desmond Miller (Between Here and the Lint Trap), Tulani Kiara (WINC Magazine Noir Issue), and Gaia WXYZ (a lecturer at UC Berkeley's Art Practice). We Belong is not one of Comic-Con's recurring panels, but is one of this year's most profound.

7 Dungeons & Dragons: The Twenty-Sided Tavern Goes Off-Broadway

However, Critical Role's Taliesin Jaffe is sticking around to moderate a panel on Sunday about the Dungeons & Dragon-inspired off-Broadway show. Dungeons & Dragons: The Twenty-Sided Tavern is exactly the performance one would expect, with improvised and interactive elements. Dungeons & Dragons is its own kind of theater, and a theatrical tie-in would predictably demand audience participation.

The show's co-creators David Carpenter and Sarah Davis Reynolds will be on the panel that will discuss the inception and development of The Twenty-Sided Tavern, along with Heidi Tandy, Esq. Additionally, a panel focusing on live theater is a strong addition to round-out the overall Comic-Con program.

Cartoon Voices I on Saturday also features variety of talented voice actors, but the lineup for Cartoon Voices II on Sunday is arguably even better. The panel includes: Debi Derryberry (Monster High), Daniel Ross (Donald Duck, The Tom and Jerry Show), Jim Meskimen (Thundercats, Avengers Assemble!), David Errigo, Jr. (Phineas and Ferb), Debra Wilson (Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League), and Fred Tatasciore (Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur).

The program does not suggest any specific discussion, besides an exploration of the craft of voice-acting. The Cartoon Voices panel ranges from serious superhero TV shows to exaggerated animated sitcoms, demanding different voice-acting skills. People may come because they are a fan of one or more particular shows, animation in general, or are even aspiring voice-actors themselves.

Sunday is the day for X-Men fans, especially those who enjoyed the new X-Men '97. Disney's first outing with the X-Men since acquiring the rights to the characters is wonderfully subversive and truer to the characters than some of the previous live-action X-Men movies. Some of the show's creatives will be on the World of X-Men '97 and X-Men: TAS Animation panel earlier in the day (11:45am; also room 6BCF), yet the bigger event is the X-Men Fandom panel happening right afterward.

This is the fifth edition of the X-Men Fandom panel, which has something new to celebrate with the release of X-Men '97. Numerous X-Men '97 voice actors will be present: Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), Holly Chou (Jubilee), JP Karliak (Morph), Isaac Robinson-Smith (Bishop), and Gui Agustini (Sunspot). As the title suggests, sci-fi is even better when real scientists are brought on as consultants to help create a sense of accuracy in movies and TV shows. For a recent example, Avengers: Endgame features a version of time-travel that conflicts with what much of the cultural zeitgeist assumes it to be.

Another panel that would only happen on Sunday will feature science advisors from across pop culture. This includes Erin Macdonald (advisor for current Star Trek TV shows), Clifford Johnson (Avengers: Endgame, Dark Matter), Stuart Sumida (His Dark Materials), Elizabeth Rega (Strange World), and Ronald Coleman (Joe Ledger book series). Following 2017's Power Rangers receiving average reviews, there have been rumors of a Power Rangers reboot, something that is bound to come up with the legacy actors on Sunday.

As the franchise reaches its 30th anniversary, there are a lot of questions up in the air about its future. What the nature of the next Power Rangers show is a big one, while others argue that 2017's Power Rangers should have gotten a sequel. To say the least, there are many ways the Power Rangers panel discussion could go. This is in addition to the typical behind-the-scenes question people may ask the actors about their time as Power Rangers.

Benton-Walker (The White Guy Dies First), Sarah Henning (The Lies We Conjure), Tricia Levenseller (The Darkness Within Us), and Christine Riccio (Attached at the Hip).
