Netflix's Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 has a deep-cut Easter egg calling out Star Trek: Discovery - despite the young Starfleet hopefuls of the USS Protostar having no knowledge the USS Discovery ever existed. Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 ingeniously weaves references to the wide scope of Star Trek canon, with Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) helping the Protostar crew repair and save every Star Trek timeline.

On his X account, Jörg Hillebrand (@gaghyogi49), who was a renowned researcher for Star Trek: Picard season 3, pointed out Murf (Dee Bradley Baker) literally calling out Star Trek: Discovery in Star Trek: Proidgy season 2, episode 5, "Observer's Paradox". Wesley Crusher had yet to reveal himself, but he communicated with Murf. "Mushroom" refers to the mycelial network that the USS Discovery's spore drive uses to instantaneously jump from place to place, and "Disco" is the abbreviation and nickname of the USS Discovery starship.
