Amy Adams’ Most Disappointing Rotten Tomatoes Streak In 22 Years Began With This Trending Netflix Movie
Summary Adams' recent movies have all received poor Rotten Tomatoes ratings, marking a significant slump in her career since 2020.
Despite some box office success, movies like "Hillbilly Elegy," "The Woman in the Window," and "Disenchanted" have not been well-received.
Adams hopes to turn things around in 2024 with the upcoming film "Nightbitch," following her longest Rotten Tomatoes streak since 2002.
Six-time Oscar-nominee Amy Adams recently experienced one of the worst Rotten Tomatoes streaks of her illustrious career. Known for her exceptional work in celebrated films such as The Fighter (2010), The Master (2012), Her (2013), American Hustle (2013), Arrival (2016), and Vice (2018), Adams is undoubtedly one of the greatest working actresses today. Although she hasn't appeared in a movie since 2022's Disenchanted, she's set to make a big return in 2024 with the upcoming film Nightbitch.
While some of Amy Adams' best movies have earned her awards consideration multiple times, the acclaimed actress has also starred in some less favorable and even more controversial movies over the years. In fact, the last four movies that Adams has starred in have all received mostly poor reviews from critics, resulting in one of the worst "Rotten" streaks of her career. They include Disenchanted, Dear Evan Hansen (2021), The Woman in the Window (2021), and Hillbilly Elegy (2020).

Since Hillbilly Elegy was released in 2020, Adams has only had "Rotten" movies on Rotten Tomatoes, excluding the extended Justice League cut that was re-released in 2021. Hillbilly Elegy received an abysmally low Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 25% despite receiving praise from casual viewers, which earned the film an audience score of 82%. Before starring in Hillbilly Elegy, Adams starred in Arrival (94%), Nocturnal Animals (74%), Justice League (40%), and Vice (64%).
The Woman in the Window earned an equally terrible Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 25%, while Dear Evan Hansen received a 29% critic score but was mostly praised by viewers, receiving an audience score of 88%. Despite being a box office hit, raking in more than $340 million worldwide, Disenchanted was considered a failure among most critics, resulting in a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 38%. Adams' next movie looks promising and should put an end to one of the biggest critical slumps of her career.
