Despite their differences, both Miguel and Robby are exceptional fighters, each winning important matches in their ongoing rivalry.
Miguel and Robby's rivalry has been an important feature of Cobra Kai, resulting in several epic fights throughout the series. With Robby being Johnny Lawrence's son and Miguel being his star student, it's no surprise that these two didn't get off to a great start. There was a natural competitiveness there that was only compounded by Robby's training with Daniel LaRusso. However, over Cobra Kai's six seasons, Miguel and Robby's relationship has come a long way—but that doesn't mean they can't continue to have some great matches.
In Cobra Kai season 6, the final season of the Netflix series, Miguel and Robby have become something like friends. They are still competitive with one another, which has kept their rivalry alive as far as karate goes. However, they no longer despise one another. Of course, they only got to this point because they were able to work out their differences with their fists. As two exceptional, instinctive fighters, Miguel and Robby pulled off some truly excellent fights in Cobra Kai, each of which carried their rivalry arc forward for better or worse.

5 Miguel vs. Robby At The All-Valley Final - Season 1
Winner: Miguel

Things had already gotten pretty tense between Miguel and Robby before the All-Valley tournament of Cobra Kai season 1. Miguel and Sam had been dating since early in the season, but the Cobra Kai student grew jealous as Sam trained with Robby. This led to a bit of a tiff between the boys, in which Miguel threw a punch at Robby during a party. Sam jumped in and blocked the punch but was injured in the effort. Sam broke up with her boyfriend, leading Miguel to wrongly blame Robby for his relationship falling apart (rather than realizing that he was being a jerk).
This history meant that Robby and Miguel's first fight had a lot of anger and frustration wrapped in. The pair faced off at their first All-Valley tournament, Miguel with Cobra Kai and Robby with Miyagi-Do. This should have been a great match, and in some ways, it was. Both karate students pulled out some pretty epic moves, but Miguel's refusal to fight clean took some of the fun out of the situation. He took cheap shots at Robby, attacking his injured shoulder when the boy was only trying to help him off the ground. This was when Johnny began to realize that the "no mercy" tenant of Cobra Kai was a problem.
Despite Robby's superb display of Mr. Miyagi's old lessons, Miguel wound up winning this All-Valley match.
Despite Robby's superb display of Mr. Miyagi's old lessons, Miguel wound up winning this All-Valley match. Though the rivalry between the pair had already begun long before they hit the mat, the way Miguel won added a different kind of spice to their already contentious relationship. Going forward in their rivalry, Miguel's win here is always tainted by the fact that he didn't fight fair, raising the question of whether he could have beaten Robby if he hadn't resorted to being a jerk.
4 Miguel vs. Robby At The High School Brawl - Season 2
Winner: Robby
Close
Miguel had to learn many tough lessons after the All-Valley match of Cobra Kai season 1. Going into season 2, Johnny decided that he wanted to do things differently at Cobra Kai, and Miguel was punished for his poor sportsmanship at the tournament. Of course, this only opened the door for John Kreese to lead a coup against Johnny, usurping his place as sensei of Cobra Kai. To make matters worse, Robby and Sam had begun to date, and Miguel learned the truth about his rival being Johnny Lawrence's son. Naturally, this planted renewed seeds of hatred.
While Miguel struggled with these revelations, he ultimately made some changes. A few heart-to-hearts with Johnny made all the difference, and Miguel tried to put his rivalry with Robby behind him. However, the dynamic between Sam and Tory grew worse with every episode, and Robby and Miguel wound up caught in the middle. Tory attacked Sam at her high school, and Robby tried to stop it. Naturally, Miguel saw this and thought that Robby was fighting Tory, and all hell broke loose—it was the Cobra Kai vs. Miyagi-Do high school brawl.
Miguel and Robby's match got pretty intense, but this time around, Miguel was willing to fight fairly. However, Robby's rage had come to a head, leading to a powerful attack that sent Miguel over the stairway railing. This was a significant moment in the duo's relationship and an indication that the rivalry between Daniel and Johnny's dojos had gone way too far. Miguel was left paralyzed, while Robby was utterly devastated by his own actions.
3 Sam & Miguel vs. Tory & Robby At The Pool Party - Season 4
Winner: Robby

There was relative peace between Miguel and Robby in Cobra Kai season 3 since the former was in serious medical trouble after being pushed over the railing in season 2. Of course, this isn't to say that they liked each other. Tension was still growing, and Miguel's (miraculous) recovery meant only that Robby could return to hating him properly. By season 4, everyone was healthy, and the pair had switched girlfriends, adding fuel to the fire. Still, the pair did their best to avoid each other but were again pulled into the drama by Tory and Sam's rivalry.
At the party in Cobra Kai season 4, Tory, Robby, Miguel, and Sam all came dressed to the nines, making their fight all the more interesting. It started with Sam and Tory exchanging rude words, and when Miguel jumped in to stop Tory's attack, Robby believed he was attacking her. It's a repeat in reverse of the Cobra Kai season 2 situation, but this time, Robby and Tory teamed up to take on Miguel and Sam. There were some fun couple moves and some one-on-one attacks, but it all ended when Robby threw Miguel toward the pool, knocking Sam and Tory in as well.
Robby could technically be called the winner of this fight, though throwing Miguel into Tory and Sam was a bit of a cheap shot. The sudden involvement of the pool caused others from the party to jump in a well, ending the battle between these couples. At least this time around, no one was seriously injured.
2 Miguel vs. Robby At The Apartment Complex - Season 5
Winner: Miguel

In Cobra Kai season 5, Terry Silver's reign led many of the rivals of the series to work together to take down their common enemy. Everyone agreed to get along, and even Tory and Sam put most of their differences behind them. Miguel and Robby tried their best at this as well, but there was still a lot of tension between them. The combination of guilt for the things they had done to one another and their rage regarding the others' crimes meant they couldn't move on. So, Johnny decided to give them the chance to get their frustrations out.
The combination of guilt for the things they had done to one another and their rage regarding the others' crimes meant they couldn't move on.
Since Miguel and Robby would be sharing a common sibling, Johnny knew enough was enough. He had the two face off at their apartment complex in another epic fight. This time, there were no rules, and no one would get in the way, and Miguel and Robby took advantage of the opportunity. The intense fight took them up to the upper level in a flurry of brutal punches and kicks. Both boys were beaten and bloody, but the fight came to a head when Miguel had the chance to kick Robby over the railing just as his opponent had done to him in Cobra Kai season 2.
Related Cobra Kai FINALLY Settles Robby Vs. Miguel (& Proves Who’s Better) Robby and Miguel have hated each other since Cobra Kai began, but season 5 has finally settled the enmity between Johnny's two sons.
With the pain and fear of that moment fresh in his mind, Miguel took the high road, choosing to spare Robby rather than exact revenge. This led the pair to talk things out, apologizing for all they had done wrong from the moment they met. While this match was technically a draw, with both boys fizzling out before a definitive end, Miguel still had the upper hand in those final moments. His decision to show mercy resolved his Cobra Kai season 1 victory, while Robby's choice to apologize for his mistakes repaired the damage from season 2.
1 Miguel vs. Robby For Sekai Taikai Team Captain - Season 6
Winner - Robby
Close
Things were pretty peaceful going into Cobra Kai season 6. After their bare-it-all fight in season 5, Miguel and Robby managed to not only tolerate each other but develop some respect. Both were eager to welcome their shared baby sister and ready to head to the Sekai Taikai to represent Miyagi-Do as part of its six-person team. However, there was still the question of who would be the boys' captain, and it was ultimately determined that Robby and Miguel would face one another in a tournament-style match—first to three points would be captain.
Cobra Kai season 6, part 2, releases on Netflix on November 15, 2024.
Robby and Miguel had reasons for wanting to win this match. Miguel had been waitlisted with Stanford University, and he knew that being the captain in a global karate tournament could make all the difference. Robby, on the other hand, was determined not to come in second place again. He had been the runner-up in two consecutive All-Valley tournaments and wasn't willing to fall just short again. With Robby and Miguel holding two victories each over the other, this would be the tie-breaking match (though neither seemed to consider this).
The fight wasn't personal this time, but both boys still brought their all. Miguel managed two points in a relatively short amount of time, and it seemed that Robby just wouldn't be able to cut it. However, his determination and that perfect blend of Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai training kicked in, and Robby got two points in himself, tying up the match. It all came down to that sudden-death point, which Robby claimed. He became the Miyagi-Do male captain, and the old rivals are entering the Sekai Taikai on good terms. Both Miguel and Robby are great fighters, but as of Cobra Kai season 6, part 1, Robby has the edge.
