Zenless Zone Zero: How To Beat Twin Marionettes (Boss Guide)
The Twin Marionettes are two bosses you can try to beat simultaneously in Zenless Zone Zero during a Chapter 3 mission from the game's main story. During "The Midnight Pursuit" questline, you'll have a chance to face these enemies once you save Hacker Rain. The synergy both bosses use together can overwhelm you easily if you aren't prepared to exploit some key weaknesses.
Although you can face the Twin Marionettes during the story mode, they also appear as weekly bosses in Zenless Zone Zero. You can challenge the Twins three different times during a week as part of the Notorious Hunt mode to farm rewards dropped by the dancing enemies. Once you learn how to defeat the Marionettes once, you might become efficient enough to take them down multiple times for great items.
The Notorious Hunt mode can only be unlocked when you finish all missions within Chapter 3, including the first boss fight encounter with the Twin Marionettes.

Best Team To Use Against The Twin Marionettes
Bring Party Members With Specific Elemental Attacks
Custom Image by Katarina Cimbaljevic
Certain team members from your list of Agents could do well against the Twin Marionettes since both of the bosses are weak against Ice and Ether attacks. These two bosses usually have a high amount of health for you to deal with, but each elemental vulnerability can be exploited to help you inflict better DPS. Your Proxy needs to select a team that's always ready to attack through the gaps in the Marionettes' defenses.
Ellen Joe and Soukaku are two of the most reliable Agents for this boss due to their Ice affinity. The S-Rank Agent Ellen might be slightly stronger, but those who only have Soukaku as a free character in Zenless Zone Zero will still find the A-Rank Agent consistent enough to beat the Twins. Nicole Demara is also an excellent choice, as she is another free A-Rank Agent with the Ether elemental preference to hit the boss' weakness.
Another Ether character you could use is the S-Rank Agent Zhu Yuan in Zenless Zone Zero, whose specialization in attacking power could deal heavy damage to the Twin Marionettes every time you fight the pair of bosses.
Try to bring at least one character with Ice or Ether attacks, then fill out the rest of your team with one Support and one Stun character. Stun characters deliver heavier strikes that might stagger the Marionettes, giving your team more chances to deal damage. However, you'll need someone else from your roster to provide healing to members of your team when they get hit by the boss' attacks.
Von Lycaon is an excellent S-Rank Agent for the Stun position while sticking with Soukaku for the Support role could leave a spot open for you to assign an Ether character to your group. Soukaku's Ice abilities can help raise the damage dealt by your team while also giving your group aid throughout the fight. Lycaon has a good amount of health, allowing them to stay in the battle longer to punish the Marionettes often.

How To Defeat The Twin Marionettes
Recognize Attacks And Take Them Down Together
One of the challenging parts about this boss fight against the Twin Marionettes is that you have to defeat both of them together to prevent one from reviving the other. If you focus on only one of the Twins and reduce its health to nothing, the other boss will raise its HP back to half. This can prolong the boss fight, making it more and more difficult for your team to keep up with the Marionettes' attacks.
As you can see in the above video by YouTube creator ZaFrostPet, your best strategy should be to keep the bosses around the same amount of health at all times. Doing this will allow your party to take them both down before one can resurrect the other once a Twin is defeated. Learning how to deal with this gimmick first will give you the freedom to start learning the other patterns used by the Marionettes.
The Twin Marionettes use a variety of close-range attacks in tandem with each other to strike at your Agents. Sometimes, the bosses glow yellow to indicate an impending attack, giving you some warning to dodge. While many attack patterns are hard to predict, here are a few you can recognize early and plan around:
Attack Description How To Counter Dancing Divekick One Marionette will spin around, slashing the space near them with their sharp dancer's outfit. Following this, the Marionette will teleport into the air and perform a spinning dive kick that strikes against a close Agent multiple times. Stay back just far enough to avoid the first spin, then dodge right as one Marionette appears from teleportation. The Twins each do this attack one after another, so be prepared to use this strategy twice in a row. Twin Frenzy Glowing purple, both Marionettes join together singing in the middle of the arena. From here, they launch a series of attacks by throwing one another toward your Agents, tracking the movements of your allies. Some of the Frenzy strikes include an aerial slam, so just watch each boss carefully and dodge each attack until they stop. There will be a brief window to retaliate as soon as they finish this move.
With the best characters in Zenless Zone Zero on your side for this fight, all you have to do is keep the pressure up and don't let the fight last too long. Defeating the Twins will reward you with great items you can use to empower your favorite Agents for future battles.
Other Ways To Fight The Twin Marionettes
Watch Out For Boss Variants And Try Hollow Zero Mode
Although you can always fight the Twin Marionettes in Notorious Hunt, you can also challenge the bosses during Bounty Commissions or in Hollow Zero. Commissions through the story can see these bosses appear again, but sometimes as variant enemies to the Twins you originally fought. For example, the Black Veil or Gray Veil Marionette could be fought in separate encounters as you take on new missions.
Both the variants of the Twin Marionettes have the same elemental weaknesses, so make sure to have an Ice or Ether Agent at the ready to deal with these enemies if they show up.
The Hollow Zero mode is another place to find the Twin bosses, as this rogue-like mode features tough enemies as guardians of different zones. As you explore various stages, you eventually will have to overcome a familiar boss fight to move on. Managing to beat the Twin Marionettes again in Zenless Zone Zero within Hollow Zero mode can help you gain even better rewards when you unlock new areas.
