This For All Mankind Update Changes 2 Massive Character Deaths & Now I’m Upset All Over Again

Summary Gordo & Tracy's deaths in "For All Mankind" were not originally planned by the show's creatives.

Executive Producer Ron Moore revealed that Gordo & Tracy's sacrifices in season 2 almost didn't happen.

Despite plans for future stories involving Gordo & Tracy, the show decided to end their arcs tragically in season 2.

It turns out For All Mankind almost spared two of the show's most compelling characters, breaking my heart all over again. For All Mankind is one of the most impressive sci-fi shows currently airing, with the upcoming fifth season continuing to push the alternate history series into the depths of the cosmos. Despite the universal ambitions of humanity at the core of the show, I've been really drawn in by the very flawed but likable characters at the heart of For all Mankind.

The high stakes of the show's sci-fi means there are just some characters who have had to die to maintain tension, including some of my favorites in the series. However, their heroic sacrifices in season 2 actually weren't the original plans for the show. Screen Rant was in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con and spoke with Executive Producer Ron D. Moore about the series, where he revealed how the original plans for the show could have spared audiences two of the show's most tragic losses.

Gordo & Tracy Weren't Always Meant To Die In For All Mankind Season 2

Why Gordo And Tracy Almost Survived Season 2

Close

I'm heartbroken by the confirmation that Gordo and Tracy almost survived the events of For All Mankind season 2. Screen Rant was at San Diego Comic-Con, and spoke with Ron D. Moore about For All Mankind. During the conversation, Moore revealed that one of the biggest changes to season 2 was the fate of Gordo and Tracy, who died sacrificing themselves to save Jonestown. According to Moore, the pair had actually been set up for future stories. However, despite having plans in place for the characters, Moore and the rest of his team decided to kill them off.

As Ron D. Moore explained to Screen Rant, "We certainly didn't anticipate that Gordo and Tracy were going to die at the end of season 2. It's an amazing episode, but that was not part of the plan." Apparently, there were loose plans for the pair going forward, and the crew behind the scenes loved the pair (both the characters and the actors) as much as I did. However, Moore and the rest of the team decided that a natural ending for the pair led to their deaths in the season 2 finale, leading to their heroic and tragic deaths.

I Wish We Saw More Of Gordo & Tracy's Story In For All Mankind

Gordo & Tracy Had Plenty More Potential

Gordo and Tracy had a lot of future potential, especially given the depth of their relationship. Gordo's space-bound ambitions and very human flaws made him a quietly relatable character, while his complicated relationship with Tracy added a bittersweet and vulnerable touch to the show. I was a fan of both their arcs in the story, with their relationship going through plenty of ups and downs before their fateful final moonwalk. The series could have easily continued its storyline, allowing For All Mankind to continue exploring subjects like mental health and complex romance alongside the ambitious sci-fi turns.

I loved the complex shades of grey that the show gave both characters, especially Gordo. As the series continued to progress through time, it would have been exciting to see their arcs continue over time. While the show has plenty of compelling characters and has to elevate the tension through fatal turns, the revelation that fans could have gotten more time with the two of them is one of the biggest heartbreaks I've found out about the behind-the-scenes development of For All Mankind.
