Song Kang is considered the “Son of Netflix,” but the streaming platform may have found its next K-drama star. One of the most popular actors of his generation, Song Kang’s next K-drama remains to be announced. The star is currently completing his military service and should be away from the screen for a while. Song Kang’s success on Netflix cannot be overlooked, but the streamer continues to collaborate with other Korean stars and directors for the development of the original series. Sweet Home season 3's ending concluded one of Netflix’s biggest K-dramas, but there are still some exciting series releasing this year.

Song Kang led the cast of Sweet Home for three seasons, although his character, Cha Hyun-su, barely appeared in season 2. Having starred in some of Netflix’s best K-dramas, Song Kang got to collaborate with some other great actors throughout his career. This includes Go Min-si, who played Eun-yu in Sweet Home and will now star in a mystery thriller for Netflix releasing in August 2024. If Song Kang is the Son of Netflix, Go Min-si may have become the “Daughter of Netflix.”

The Frog Is Yet Another Netflix Original K-drama Starring Go Min-si

Go Min-si Now Has Three Netflix Original Shows

The Frog, an upcoming Netflix original K-drama, is yet another web series starring Go Min-si releasing on the platform. This will mark Go Min-si’s third collaboration with Netflix, the other two being Love Alarm and Sweet Home. Released in 2019, Love Alarm was Netflix’s first original K-drama and marked the beginning of a new era for how other countries consume Korean shows. Although Go Min-si played a supporting role in Love Alarm, her character was a highlight of the show alongside names like Song Kang, Kim So-hyun, and Jung Ga Ram.

Shortly after playing Gul-mi in Love Alarm, Go Min-si would join the cast of another Netflix original K-drama. The actress starred as Lee Eun-yu in Sweet Home, which was also a game-changing Korean series. Sweet Home was the first Korean show to enter Netflix’s Global Top 10, prompting the streamer to continue developing original webseries alongside plenty of other licensed titles. With Sweet Home season 3 wrapping up the fan-favorite show after four years, it did not take long for Go Min-si to have another Netflix project. It seems like she is now the “Daughter of Netflix” indeed.

It is difficult to discuss Song Kang’s Netflix success without mentioning Go Min-si’s career and vice versa. The story of how Korean dramas became so popular on Netflix intersects with the story of Song Kang and Go Min-si’s friendship, which traces back to Love Alarm. Song Kang played the leading role of Sun-oh in Love Alarm, and while his character was involved in a complex love triangle, he also interacted a lot with Go Min-si’s character. The two stars would reunite less than a year later for Sweet Home as Hyun-su and Eun-yu.

Having The Frog release shortly after Sweet Home season 3 is a great idea considering how great Go Min-si was in the latter.

Most Song Kang K-dramas are available on Netflix worldwide, including traditional broadcast shows that aired in South Korea before landing on streaming. The same is not the case for Go Min-si, whose career includes some great K-dramas that are not available on Netflix. For example, Youth of May, which stars Go Min-si and Lee Do-hyun, is available on Kocowoa and Viki. Regardless, two of Netflix’s most successful original K-dramas feature both Song Kang and Go Min-si. It will now be interesting to see Go Min-si leading her own webseries.

Go Min-si’s Eun-yu Was A Highlight Of Sweet Home Season 3

Having The Frog release shortly after Sweet Home season 3 is a great idea considering how great Go Min-si was in the latter. Thankfully, Eun-yu was given a lot of screen time in seasons 2 and 3, even though Sweet Home introduced a lot of new characters and sidelined some of the original protagonists. Eun-yu’s journey alongside Private Park in season 2 was fun, but seeing her reunite with her brother in season 3 was even better. Sweet Home 3 delivered the long-awaited return of Lee Do-hyun’s Eun-hyeok, which was followed by a bittersweet reunion between siblings.

The Frog releases on August 23, 2024, on Netflix.

Eun-yu’s interactions with Hyun-su were also great, particularly because the evil version of Song Kang’s character was the one behind the wheel for most of the season. It was fun to see how Hyun-su continued to care about Eun-yu even though his monster self was taking over, all but confirming that he had feelings for her. Eun-yu almost had a tragic ending considering she was infected, but fortunately, Sweet Home had already proven that neohumans can learn how to have feelings again. After such a strong performance in Sweet Home 3, I’m excited to see Go Min-si in her next K-drama.
