Diablo 4 Player Discover A Bizarre Legendary Item That Shouldn't Exist

Summary Discovering a "Legendary Rare" item in Diablo IV is a strange glitch that has players puzzled.

The rare chest armor boasts a Legendary effect and damage reduction, defying game norms.

Despite its existence being a mystery, the item could be a valuable keepsake.

Given the amount of loot available in Diablo IV, it stands to reason that some items would be odder than others, but one player may have just discovered one of the strangest drops in the entire game. When it comes to rarity in Blizzard's massive action RPG, there are strict measures put in place to ensure that Legendary items are the most desirable thanks to their powerful added effects. While Legendary items may be more common in Diablo IV than in previous games, there's no questioning how vital they are to a solid build.

Posting on Reddit, user FR0ZENBERG shared a screenshot of what they describe as a "Legendary Rare" item given that it's classified as a piece of Sacred Rare Chest Armor but it boasts a Legendary effect.

It's a strange bug, one that's likely a glitch with Diablo VI's UI but there's no questioning the validity of the discovery since FR0ZENBERG even shared a video of the item in action. Even more bizarre is the fact that the item also features a damage reduction affix which shouldn't be possible on Rare and even Legendary items.

How Did Diablo IV's Rare Legendary Happen?

It's Still A Mystery To Everyone

Close

Despite the excitement generated by what many players are describing as the rarest item in the entirety of Diablo IV, many are trying to figure out how it came to be given that a "Legendary Rare" shouldn't be possible. As mentioned above, it's likely just a visual bug but the strangest aspect is that the Legendary effect actually works, meaning the UI is correct. FR0ZENBERG notes that they acquired the chest pieces as a quest reward but that doesn't explain how the mix-up occurred.

Whatever the case may be, it's a pity that loot is locked to a player's profile in Diablo IV given that FR0ZENBERG could have likely sold it for a decent amount thanks to its impossible existence. It's certainly worth keeping as a memento even if the stats on the actual chest piece aren't all that special. Still, as a fun piece to show off, one can't do much better than a "Legendary Rare" item that shouldn't technically exist.

One has to wonder if the "Legendary Rare" item will be patched out of the game when Diablo IV drops its next major content patch to kick off Season 5 on August 6. The next chapter in the live-service game will include a new Eternal Questline titled "The Eyes of the Enemy" that promises to shake up the various alliances formed across Sanctuary. It will also introduce Infernal Hordes, a new game mode that promises some of the most challenging battles yet seen in the game.
