Elden Ring Players Beware: There's A Seriously Dangerous Exploit Plaguing PvP
Summary Elden Ring players beware: an exploit using Eclipse Shotel & Deadly Poison Perfume Bottle makes PvP deadly.
The Death Blight cloud instantly kills anyone within range, making multiplayer even more challenging.
FromSoftware is likely to patch the exploit soon, restoring balance to PvP battles in Elden Ring.
Elden Ring players who enjoy duking it out with other Tarnished should be aware of a new exploit that's making multiplayer more difficult than it's ever been. While FromSoftware's catalog of RPGs is known for their punishing combat and brutal challenges, there's no system that better exemplifies that than multiplayer which can often be a grueling experience. Only the most practiced players with builds able to smite gods rise to the top of the PvP mode, but even they aren't safe from this new exploit.
Posted to X (formerly Twitter) by user OnlyWaifu, per GamesRadar+, the exploit involves equipping the Eclipse Shotel in both hands, ensuring the Death Flare skill is active, and then using the Deadly Poison Perfume Bottle.
The resulting cloud triggers a rapid build-up of Death Blight which instantly kills anyone affected by the status. Players are using it to blanket a small area, ensuring that enemies who come within the cloud can't shake the Death Blight and die before they're able to engage in a fight properly.

Could This Elden Ring Exploit Be Here To Stay?
That Seems Very Unlikely
Close
The Eclipse Shotel exploit may be frustrating for Elden Ring players looking to take a quick PvP break from Shadow of the Erdtree, but it's worth noting that it likely won't be around for long. FromSoftware is currently in the process of preparing the game for its next balance patch and it's highly likely that the studio is aware of the issue. When the next hotfix is scheduled to drop is currently unknown but it seems like a safe bet that PvP should be back to normal relatively soon.
It's worth noting that while Death Blight is deeply annoying even outside of PvP, the exploit doesn't guarantee the user a clean victory. Since the cloud emitted by the Deadly Poison Perfume Bottle emanates from the caster, they'll also be caught within the area of effect and will thus be impacted by Death Blight. It may not be the best way to win a fight but at least victims can at least have the satisfaction of knowing their opponent also perished.
The Elden Ring community is constantly discovering new strategies and tactics thanks to the sheer density of the game's mechanics and systems. Following the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, players have spent hours concocting special builds to eliminate even the most punishing boss encounters in a single hit. The expansion is still relatively young so it remains to be seen what other ultra-powerful abilities form out of the various in-game items.
