Honkai: Star Rail 2.5 Leaks Indicate The Game Is Getting Better For All The Wrong Reasons
Summary Version 2.5 of Honkai: Star Rail may bring a new pet system, as leaked by sources like Donut and BabyMonsterTeam.
The alleged pet, resembling a tapir, may be central to the new pet system in Honkai: Star Rail.
While details are scarce, the rumored pet system in Honkai: Star Rail hints at expanding gameplay options beyond combat.
The next update for Honkai: Star Rail may introduce a brand new system that will make the game better, but for the wrong reasons, if new Version 2.5 leaks are to be believed. At the moment, the turn-based RPG by HoYoverse is entering Version 2.4, a patch that distances itself from Penacony and takes players back to the Xianzhou Luofu. There, they will get involved in a brand-new story arc with the Alliance and get to meet the new characters in Honkai: Star Rail 2.4, which includes Yunli, Jiaoqiu, and the new March 7th (Hunt) form.
The beta tests for Version 2.5, however, have commenced and several details about the upcoming content have started to leak. As seen in new information provided by the leaker known as Donut, which was then shared in a post tagged as “Reliable” on Reddit, there may be a new pet system introduced in Version 2.5. The leak shows what seems like a new menu icon in the shape of a small bell, as well as renders for a new tapir-like creature that has a purple belt around its waist – interpreted to be a new pet in Honkai: Star Rail.

The Leaked Tapir Seems To Be The Central Pet For Now
This was not the only source of the leak. Another piece of information provided by BabyMonsterTeam Leaks, which was also shared in a post tagged as “Reliable” on Reddit, shows more renders of the alleged tapir-like pet creature. Furthermore, the leak states that the images of the creature supposedly called Tapir were found in a separate folder called “pet,” as opposed to where creatures like Diting or Peppy are kept. This may be the way to differentiate creature-shaped NPCs from creatures in the rumored pet system in Honkai: Star Rail.
Based on the leaks so far, Version 2.5 may truly introduce a brand-new pet system. Despite hardly ever being central to the core gameplay structure of games like this turn-based RPG, pets are very much appreciated by players in all sorts of games, and being able to pet creatures has become a staple – to the point that games may even suffer criticism when they do not include the option to pet an animal – as is the case with Genshin Impact, another of HoYoverse’s games, for example.

This rumored pet system, however, has yet to have more details deciphered. In a sense, Honkai: Star Rail already has a pet system. Ruan Mei’s Creations, present in Herta Space Station, are somewhat of a pet system. Though the focus is on creating them and then assembling them in a customizable area, the activity does revolve around pet-like creatures. The new rumored pet system may be completely different and, this time around, offer players the opportunity to collect creatures and have them follow the active character, or perhaps interact with them inside the Astral Express.
Players can currently interact with their Warp Trotter on the Astral Express.
For now, this leak should be taken with extreme caution, as not only are the leaks scarce, but the details about how the rumored pet system will work are still absent. Nevertheless, the mere mention of a pet system seems enticing and shows that the game is constantly expanding its gameplay options, beyond mere combat, but puzzles like the Eerie Building Blocks in Honkai: Star Rail, and cozy activities, too.
