Jay & Silent Bob's New Movie Is Paying Off A Great Tease From Clerks 3
Summary Jay and Silent Bob's new dispensary business will be front and center in their next movie, exploring the transition from street dealers to weed entrepreneurs.
The dispensary storyline is a fresh take on the stoner duo, adapting with the times and avoiding stale antics in an evolving industry.
Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars has a big advantage over the previous reboot, offering an original story rather than a recycled plot, making it likely to be a better movie.
Clerks III didn’t have much time to explore Jay and Bob’s new dispensary business, but the recently announced Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars will put that venture at the forefront. Kevin Smith is currently promoting his latest film, The 4:30 Movie, an ‘80s-set coming-of-age comedy about a group of kids who spend a day theater-hopping, which is due to be released on September 13. But he’s already hyping up his next movie, which will be a third big-screen solo outing for arguably his most beloved characters, Jay and Silent Bob.
The last time Smith revisited Jay and Bob in the long-awaited Clerks III, he revealed that the dime-bag merchants have turned their pot dealing into a legitimate business. They’ve converted the RST Video next to the Quick Stop into a legal marijuana dispensary. Since it was focused on the culmination of Dante and Randal’s stories, Clerks III didn’t have much time to explore Jay and Bob’s new business venture. But Jay and Silent Bob’s latest adventure will see them competing with a rival dispensary, so it’ll explore that industry in more depth.
Jay & Silent Bob: Store Wars Will Revisit Jay & Bob's Dispensary From Clerks 3
Turning Jay and Silent Bob into weed entrepreneurs was a great development for the stoner duo
In their early View Askewniverse outings, Jay and Silent Bob spent all their time selling weed outside the Quick Stop or selling weed outside Mooby’s. Giving them a legal marijuana dispensary business in Clerks III was the perfect way to update this iconic stoner duo for the modern age. Now that weed is legal across the majority of the U.S., Jay and Bob could turn their illicit operation into a fully legal business venture. They’ve gone from local drug dealers to weed entrepreneurs.
The dispensary storyline was a great way to avoid Jay and Silent Bob’s antics getting stale – they’re adapting with the times. But Clerks III was so focused on Dante and Randal’s friendship and the end of their three-decade on-screen journey together that it only really touched on Jay and Bob’s new business. There’s a lot of comic potential in these two guys making the transition from selling nickel-bags on the street to being enterprising businessmen. Store Wars can realize that potential.
Jay & Silent Bob 3 Has A Big Advantage Over Jay & Silent Bob Reboot
Store Wars is an original story, not a rehash of its predecessor
Right off the bat, Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars has a major advantage over Jay and Silent Bob Reboot that makes it likely to be a better movie. Whereas Jay and Silent Bob Reboot just rehashed the story of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, copying all its plot beats and recycling all its jokes, Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars is an original story. Instead of relying on what worked in the past, it’s forging its own path and telling a new story.
