My Deer Friend Nokotan Episode #5 Release Date & Time

My Deer Friend Nokotan Episode #5 Release Date & Time

My Deer Friend Nokotan episode #4 was another episode all about widening the scope of the cast and comedy, and it left a lot to be excited about for episode #5 in beyond. With even more great comedic writing and equally chaotic direction accompanying it, episode #4 did a great job of playing into the strengths of the series, and it’s not looking to let up on that anytime soon.

My Deer Friend Nokotan episode #4 introduced Koshitan’s fellow student council members, and while episode #3 set them up to be somewhat antagonistic towards the Deer Club, in reality, the student council were hilariously ineffective as antagonists to the point that most of them became friends with the Deer Club by the end of the episode.

That was the exact sort of comedic writing that’s expected of the My Deer Friend Nokotan anime, by this point, and overall, it was great to see from start to finish.

My Deer Friend Nokotan episode #4, “Deer Club Under Siege,” opened with the introduction of Koshitan’s fellow student council members: vice-president Nekoyamada, who sees herself as Koshitan’s rival and wants to find a way to defeat her, something Koshitan is completely oblivious of; secretary Tanukikoji, a perpetually anxious girl who overreacts to everything; and treasurer Tsubameya, a stoic girl who seemed to hate Koshitan. Nekoyamada hoped to have everyone wear down Koshitan’s resolve to expose a weakness of hers, but nothing happened by the time they were done with their work, and even the narrator consoled Nekoyamada over her failure.

The next day, Koshitan arrived at the Deer Club to find Tsubameya for reasons she couldn’t figure out. Koshitan tried to use that as a chance to impress Tsubameya, but not only did she repeatedly stare at her in annoyance, but she somehow reacted to every weird thing Nokotan did with awe. After Tsubameya went home, it was revealed that Tsubameya was a major fangirl of Nokotan who had been working up the courage to meet her; additionally, her poor interactions with Koshitan were just the result of her being nervous about meeting Nokotan.

As Koshitan bemoaned losing a chance to look good in front of an underclassman, she took another shot at it when she helped Tanukikoji with an assignment in the school’s utility shed. The two of them were accidentally locked inside, however, and while Koshitan tried to keep Tanukikoji from panicking, her efforts were largely ineffective. Fortunately, Nokotan inadvertently saved them when she came by to harvest the mushrooms she had been growing in secret, and My Deer Friend Nokotan episode #4 ended with the Deer Club and the student council sans Nekoyamada eating rice with mushrooms together.

My Deer Friend Nokotan Confirms A Brilliant Running Gag

In previous episodes of My Deer Friend Nokotan, there would occasionally be a background character near Koshitan with a far more unique design than other characters, which seemed to imply that said character was set up to be important later on. Sure enough, My Deer Friend Nokotan episode #4 confirmed that Nekoyamada was in the background of previous episodes before her proper introduction, all of which hilariously emphasized her pointless obsession with Koshitan. That worked to sell the comedy of her character even further, and it hopefully won’t be the last of that sort of writing from the series.

My Deer Friend Nokotan Further Enhances Its Cast & Comedy

My Deer Friend Nokotan episode #4 was the proper introduction to the student council, and overall, they’ve made great additions to the cast. Between how ineffective an antagonist Nekoyamada is, the great visual comedy that always accompanies Tanukikoji’s anxiety, and the hilarious contrast between Tsubameya’s stoicism and her admiration of Nokotan, every member of My Deer Friend Nokotan’s student council adds a great amount of comedy to the series, and with the series not even halfway through its run, it will be great to see how that develops throughout the summer 2024 anime season.

Beyond that, the comedy for episode #4, as a whole, was also in top form. Not only was the writing as great as always, but My Deer Friend Nokotan episode #4 was another episode with an incredible amount of visual comedy to behold, with notable standout moments including the random insertion of a music video with Nokotan singing about deer senbei and the meta-comedy of Nokotan pulling up the previous episode on her laptop. My Deer Friend Nokotan episode #4 excelled on all fronts, and episode #5 is primed to be even better.

Be sure to watch My Deer Friend Nokotan episode #5 when it releases on Sunday, August 4.
