That '90s Show Season 2 Just Reminded Me Of A Forman Family Member I Completely Forgot About From That '70s Show

Summary Red's new hobby of model trains in "That '90s Show" is a callback to a previous episode of "That '70s Show."

Marty Forman only appeared in one episode of "That '70s Show," and his fate remains unclear.

Red kept the model train set after Marty allowed him to have it.

The Forman family is undoubtedly one of the most beloved sitcom families of all time, but not all of its members get an equal amount of screen time, and That '90s Show season 2 is a reminder of one Forman I had forgotten all about. The Netflix TV series is based on the popular 2000s sitcom That '70s Show and features the return of Red and Kitty Forman. That '90s Show focuses on Red and Kitty's granddaughter, Leia Forman (Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti's teenage daughter), who spends summers with her grandparents. in Point Place, Wisconsin, in the mid-1990s.

Following the ending of That '90s Show season 1, Leia returns to Point Place almost a year later at the beginning of season 2. While the majority of the episodes chronicle Leia's story with her friends (Gwen, Jay, Ozzie, Nikki, and Nate), Red and Kitty get some time in the spotlight, as well. One of Red's most amusing storylines in That '90s Show season 2 even made me recall one episode in That '70s Show that featured a Forman family member who hasn't been seen since season 1 of the original series.

Red takes up a new hobby in That '90s Show season 2 — model trains. After Red retired, it makes sense that he would try to find hobbies to pass his (now unlimited) free time. However, Red's model trains are also seemingly a callback to his argument with his brother, Marty Forman, in That '70s Show season 1, episode 23 (the only episode Pat Skipper appeared in).

After their mother (Bernice Forman) died, Red and Marty had to decide who would get the model train set from their childhood. Although there was some back and forth regarding who would inherit it, Marty ultimately let his (presumably older) brother have the model train set. Marty knew how much it meant to Red and how much he wanted it. So, Red kept the model train set, and now that he is retired in That '90s Show season 2's story, he can put all his attention on it.

That '70s Show Never Revealed What Happened To Red's Brother Marty

Marty Only Appeared In 1 Episode

Since Marty only starred in one episode of That '70s Show, it's unclear what happened to him after his mother's funeral. Red never mentions his brother again, so, he could be dead for all we know. Perhaps a future episode of That '90s Show will bring Pat Skipper back to reprise his role as Marty, or, one of the other Forman family members could update the audience on his status with a throwaway line.
