“That Needs To Be A TV Series”: Bruce Campbell Pitches TV Revival Of His & Kurt Russell’s 2005 Superhero Movie
Summary Bruce Campbell pitches a potential Sky High reboot as a TV series, revealing he's open to returning as Coach Boomer for a revival.
Sky High has an enduring appeal, with many of its cast members continuing to appear in the superhero genre.
With the superhero genre still thriving and audiences familiar with superhero tropes, Campbell's Sky High pitch holds promise.
At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Bruce Campbell pitches a potential reboot of his and Kurt Russell's 2005 Disney superhero movie Sky High. Starring Campbell as a superhero-turned-teacher with a destructive voice, the movie followed a young teen with two celebrated hero parents enrolling in a school for potential heroes as he waits for his latent powers to kick in. A success with critics and at the box office, Sky High has attracted a cult following, and many of its stars have returned to the comic book movie subgenre in the following years.
Despite almost 20 years passing since Sky High hit theaters, Campbell revealed to Collider while at San Diego Comic-Con that not only would he be open to returning as Coach Boomer in a revival, but he has a pitch and hopes for the project. Seeing that the project still appeals to audiences to this day, Campbell suggested the property could thrive as a serialized series. Check out Campbell's explanation below:
That needs to be a TV series on Peacock. That would be a good TV show because you’re following high school kids, only they’re superheroes. The stars have to align [for me to return as Coach Boomer], but never say never. Because it’s Kurt Russell. I’d have to work with Kurt again for the third time. I worked with his son, Wyatt, on Lodge 49. I know all the Russells!

Sky High Has Aged Surprisingly Well
And This Could Provide An Opportunity For A Sequel
With these factors in mind and the fair number of viewers who watched it growing up, Campbell's Sky High pitch may have plenty of potential behind it.
While the movie was a success upon release, Sky High has found itself aging particularly well. Not only is the superhero genre still fairly successful, but many of its stars have found themselves returning to tales of caped crusaders. Campbell would remain a recurring cast member of Sam Raimi's various Marvel and Sony projects, while Russell and Jim Rash have both appeared in the MCU. Additionally, Rash, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Danielle Panabaker have voiced or played DC characters. As such, their Sky High connection is more humorous in hindsight.
Furthermore, audiences are now more accustomed to many superhero tropes employed by Sky High that at the time may have only been known to dedicated comic book readers. Characters such as Laura Kinney, Miles Morales, Kamala Khan, and Jon Kent have successfully shown a new generation of heroes can rise, even taking on the mantles of their predecessors. Even the highly successful manga My Hero Academia has shown a series focused on young heroes at a specialized school can be a hit.
With these factors in mind and the fair number of viewers who watched it growing up, Campbell's Sky High pitch may have plenty of potential behind it. Not only is the superhero genre's enduring popularity a positive sign, but its expansion into other tones and formats indicates there's interest in seeing unique takes on these familiar ideas. As such, Campbell's enthusiasm shows that some cast members are eager to pick up where things left off 19 years ago.
