Xbox Game Pass May Get Three Classic PlayStation Games On August 8

Summary Rumor suggests Crash Bandicoot may join Xbox Game Pass on August 8, following Activision's push to integrate its popular franchises.

Adding iconic games like Crash Bandicoot could help justify the Xbox Game Pass price hike, but will it be enough for disillusioned customers?

Activision/Blizzard titles like Call of Duty are arriving on Xbox Game Pass, causing speculation on their role in the recent price increase.

As Activision's library of titles slowly begins to make its way onto Xbox Game Pass, rumor has it that subscribers may soon gain access to a franchise that has long been associated with PlayStation. Following Diablo 4's successful inclusion in the service, Microsoft is doing its best to integrate Activision's most popular live-service games onto its expansive platform. Now that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is available through Xbox Game Pass, it stands to reason that even more iconic franchises wade into the fray.

Per Pure Xbox, a recent rumor alleges that Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy will be one of August's big-ticket items for Xbox Game Pass users when it supposedly arrives on August 8. As with most rumors, it's worth taking this claim with a grain of salt but it's not difficult to imagine Activision's remade Crash Bandicoot games coming to Microsoft's service given that the collection is seven years old and would make for a decent inclusion that provides fans with something new that isn't a Day One release. It could also help justify the recent Xbox Game Pass price hike.

From an audience perspective, gaining access to three remade Crash Bandicoot games does sound like a substantial deal when they're all available on Xbox Game Pass. However, as more and more of Activision's games crop up on the subscription service, the question remains on whether or not these titles are to blame for the recent price hike. Given that high-profile hits like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 dropped on the platform shortly after the price announcement, many believe they may be the cause.

It could be the case that Microsoft is attempting to justify Xbox Game Pass' exorbitant price hike by adding more popular games like Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy. Coupled with the forthcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, this may be the start of the first real wave of Activision/Blizzard games coming to the service. Even if that is the case, it remains to be seen whether these games will be enough to satisfy customers who have grown disillusioned with Xbox's business model.

2024 has been an especially difficult year for Microsoft as it kicked everything off by announcing that several Xbox exclusives would be ported to competing consoles. Matters then got more dire when it shut down multiple beloved development studios before announcing the Xbox Game Pass price hike. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy will no doubt be a massive bonus for subscribers, but when it comes with a bigger price tag it suddenly doesn't feel worth it.
