DC's Evil Green Lantern Officially Debuts as JADESTONE Is Unleashed

Summary Jadestone, a new sentient robot, becomes the newest Green Lantern after stealing powers from Alan Scott in Absolute Power: Task Force VII #3.

With all Green Lanterns powerless, Jadestone must resist evil and make his own decisions as the only Earth Green Lantern.

The power of willpower is now coursing through Jadestone, making him the most powerful and autonomous Green Lantern on Earth.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Absolute Power: Task Force VII #3!Willpower has always been the greatest tool of the Green Lantern, defenders of Sector 2814. But now there's a new character to wield the Green Lantern's light, and not quite by willpower alone. Not only that, but he's a sentient robot - and he's just evolved himself into his own place in the Green Lantern mythos.

As the world comes crashing down around the Justice League and their fellow heroes in the wake of Absolute Power, Amanda Waller and her new Suicide Squad of hive-mind androids have stolen the powers of the world's greatest heroes. There are still a few heroes trying to make a daring escape, however, but one Amazo has been tracking them down.

In Absolute Power: Task Force VII #3, by Jeremy Adams and Marco Santucci, this Amazo undergoes a full evolution after he drains the Starheart out of Alan Scott's body. Suddenly, he reboots, fully sentient, as the very essence of willpower gives him life, a new name, and a new purpose.

Jadestone Is the Newest Green Lantern

Alan Scott and Jadestone

Jadestone is just another example of reinventing Green Lantern lore by bringing the old fight back: green versus green. Before the time of the Sinestro Corps, before even the time of the rainbow of the emotional spectrum, there was good willpower, and there was evil willpower. It's an old battle, as with Sinestro and Hal Jordan, but now it's a battle between the oldest Green Lantern, and a freshly created android. The android has already won, but not in the way he might have expected.

Jade is the Green Lantern moniker for Alan Scott's daughter - hence the very name of Jadestone, as he steals his powers from Alan Scott, might be one last insult to injury.

In taking power away from Alan Scott's Green Lantern, it seems this mindless Amazo has had an unexpected debut. Previously an unnamed android in the service of Amanda Waller, suddenly, he has transitioned into sentience, naming himself Jadestone, the newest Green Lantern. The power of the Starheart, a very important piece of willpower incarnate, is now the gas in his engine, and with every other Green Lantern ringless and utterly human, Jadestone has not only become the most powerful Green Lantern, but the only one there is.

Does This Green Lantern Have the Willpower to Resist Evil's Might?

Alan Scott Fights Against Jadestone

Being a Green Lantern means fighting for good, so the question remains: just how long can Jadstone hold onto his willpower as long as he remains on the side of evil? The answer might be shorter than expected. After all, along with his sentience, it seems Jadestone might now be free of the Amazo hive mind and can act of his own accord. Just what he will do with his new powers remains to be seen, but maybe he too will fall in love with the Green Lantern's power.

With all the Green Lanterns divested of their own willpower, Jadestone is now officially the sole Green Lantern of Earth. Now that he is fully autonomous, and raw willpower is coursing through his circuits, it could be possible that he will not be beholden to Amanda Waller's orders anymore. To have the power of willpower means being able to fight for yourself and to make your own decisions. His job tasked to him may just backfire and be the world's saving grace after all, as the newest Green Lantern decides just what to do with his newfound willpower.
