Pokémon GO: How To Beat Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt (August 2024 Lineup & Counters)
Team Rocket Grunts return to Pokémon GO in August 2024, including the Ghost-type specialist whose only words before a battle are "Ke...Ke...Ke...Ke...." This trainer for the criminal organization is one of several you must beat to unlock another battle against one of Team Rocket's leaders. Picking the right counters to this Grunt's lineup will allow you to move on from them easily for other important challenges.
Around 21 different Team Rocket teams can be challenged to fight the organization's leaders, like Arlo or Sierra in Pokémon GO. The Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt is one of the most consistent between months, but not just because of their team's typing. The Pokémon on this team are usually the same every time and can be approached with a straightforward group of counters from your collection.

Take Care Against A Haunted Trainer
The Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt uses Ghost-type Pokémon on their team, which is ambiguous from the only line of dialogue they speak before a battle. Other Team Rocket trainers typically give you a good clue about what type they prefer based on what line they say, but this team's gimmick isn't revealed immediately. Some of the Ghost-types you might encounter could also have a second typing depending on which creature you face.
Unlike raid bosses in Pokémon GO, you face three waves of Pokémon used by this Team Rocket trainer. The Pokémon you fight are randomly selected from pools of three, making the team you face a combination of chances that can be difficult to predict. To make matters more complicated, all Team Rocket trainers use Shadow Pokémon, or stronger versions of normal pocket monsters due to the dark energy they possess.

While every Pokémon on the Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt's team is a Ghost-type weak to Ghost-type attacks, you'll want to be careful using Ghost-types of your own for this battle. Since Ghost-types are super-effective against each other, the advantage in those match-ups comes down to who's Pokémon is faster. Since this team has a chance to use the incredibly fast Frostlass in Wave 3, you're better off going with some different counters.
Best Counters Against Team Ke Ke Ke Ke (August 2024)
Use New Legendary Pokémon To Exorcise Some Ghosts
The best team you can use to counter Team Ke Ke Ke Ke is a strong Water-type, Tyrantiar, and either version of the Legendary Pokémon, Necrozma. Introduced during the Fest 2024 event, Necrozma in Pokémon GO can be caught either in their Dawn Wings or Dusk Mane forms. Both versions of this creature are extremely powerful, but you'll likely want Dawn Wings more for its secondary Ghost typing.
Dusk Mane Necrozma could be a good choice for this fight as well, but mostly as a counter to the Wave 3 Froslass with its secondary Steel typing instead of exploiting the broader weaknesses of Team Ke Ke Ke Ke.
While most normal Ghost-types may falter against Team Ke Ke Ke Ke, Necrozma's status as a Legendary puts it leagues beyond whatever the Team Rocket Grunt can throw at you. Any Dark-type does well for this battle, making Tyranitar an excellent anchor for your team, no matter what Pokémon is used against you. Tyranitar counters every Pokémon in each wave to some degree, making them a reliable choice every time.
A Water-type with bulkier health can help you outlast the attacks of enemy Pokémon in this battle and counter a few of Team Ke Ke Ke Ke's possible wave picks. Neither Golett nor the Marowak in Wave 3 stand a chance against a strong Swampert or Kyogre by your side. Once you have the right counters, you can use them to defeat Team Ke Ke Ke Ke in Pokémon GO and even capture some of the Shadow Pokémon in their lineup for August 2024.
