How Terminator Zero Is Capitalizing On Recent Trends
Adult Animation Is Getting More Popular
Close
Terminator Zero will release eight episodes on Netflix on August 29. This continues a pattern of major IPs being adapted into an animated form. Netflix has previous experience producing shows similar to this with their animated adaptation of Castlevania. This trend shows Netflix finds animation as a viable medium for action franchises that have roots in other mediums.
Being an animated series, Terminator Zero will also ride the wave of adult animation series, which have been gaining popularity over the last several years. While adult animation series can take on numerous different genres, including the Prime Video series Invincible, which has had two seasons thus far. Unlike Terminator Zero, Invincible does not have an existing live-action project to live up to in reputation. Still, Terminator Zero's esthetics will likely be compared to Invincible and other adult animation projects.
Related Upcoming Terminator Show Is Continuing A Worrying Tradition That Began 16 Years Ago Terminator Zero sounds incredibly exciting, but the upcoming Netflix anime is seemingly continuing a curious tradition that began after Terminator 3.
From the looks of the Terminator Zero trailer, the show's visuals seem to focus heavily on shadows and dark, muted tones, creating a distinct environment from animated series like Invincible or Rick & Morty. Terminator Zero will allow for a re-exploration of the Terminator universe after several years, as well as a unique take on the AI-fear sci-fi subgenre that is emerging. Whether it fully succeeds in this goal remains to be seen, but the trailer for Terminator Zero creates intrigue.
