Harley Quinn's Unbelievable Connection with Lobo Makes a Weirdly Heartwarming Return in DC Lore

Warning: Spoilers for Power Girl #10

Summary Harley Quinn's connection with Lobo's daughter, Crush, is brought to the forefront in Power Girl #10.

Power Girl forms a bond with Crush, both knowing Harley as a protective friend.

Despite her wild past with Lobo, Harley Quinn can't resist the cute, wild challenge presented by Crush.

Harley Quinn's dalliance with Lobo and his once-pet Dawg may be in the past, but her connection with Lobo's daughter Crush has just made a weirdly heartwarming return. Harley Quinn's pal, Power Girl — and Dawg — are both drawn to Crush during some typical Metropolis chaos. As Crush gets to know her new friends, she finds they all have an ally in common: Harley herself, though it's doubtful she knows about Harley's strange connection to her father.

Power Girl's new friend Crush waxes poetic about over-protective "chaos blondies" in Power Girl #10 by Leah Williams and Eduardo Pansica. Paige is excited to hear that Crush knows Harley - one of her "closest friends." But she is not surprised to hear that Harley was immediately protective of Crush. Like Harley, Power Girl gets along well with trouble-making strays.

Though Harley Quinn's days of wild destruction are...changing, she and Lobo's old friend Dawg can't resist his daughter, Crush. A "traumatized baby alien," Crush presents a cute, wild challenge — one Harley Quinn could never resist, as her history with both Crush and Lobo demonstrates.

Harley Quinn's Connection to Crush Is Genuinely Sweet

Panels from "And Baby Makes Three" by Leah Williams, Paulina Ganucheau, and Frank Cvetkovic from DC Pride 2023 #1

Harley took a vacation to Dinosaur Island with her love Poison Ivy in the DC Pride 2023 #1 story “And Baby Makes Three.” While they're lounging on the beach, a shipwrecked Crush crawls ashore. A frequent collector of strays, Harley can’t resist playing house with the stranded alien. Harley and Ivy exemplify healthy love, while Harley feeds Crush and tucks her into bed at night. The pair even orchestrate a setup to help Crush reunite with her almost-girlfriend. Playacting as Crush’s adoptive mother is not too far off for Harley, however, after her brief affair with Crush’s father, Lobo.

Harley's Little Black Book is a collection of wild tales from Harley Quinn's mostly-single days. Though she flirts with Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Zatanna, and even Superman, Harley's most genuine “date” was with Lobo. Much like Crush does when she finds Harley on Dinosaur Island, Lobo, Harley, and Dawg fall from space into a dangerous tropical wilderness. Though the pet-hoarding Harley objects to Lobo’s regular mistreatment of Dawg, the two have several heated moments on their journey.

Harley Quinn's Connection to Lobo Is... Less Sweet

Panel from Harley’s Little Black Book #6 by Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Simon Bisley, Paul Mounts, and Dave Sharpe

Harley and Lobo have their clothes burned off as they literally fall from space. Later on, they share a steamy kiss in a waterfall. Their intimate moment is interrupted by the wrong kind of giant snake in the water. The mood isn’t exactly redeemed when Harley accidentally kills Lobo’s ex. But their impending doom on an exploding pirate ship sparks the romance again, and they kiss as they are teleported safely to Coney Island. Though the attractive offerings of South Brooklyn bring Lobo away from Harley, there was a brief time when she might have ended up Crush’s stepmom.

Now it seems as though Harley, through her friendship with Power Girl, may cross paths with some Lobo-related characters once again. Whether Crush finds out her "mother figure" Harley Quinn may have actually stood a chance at becoming her stepmom is yet to be seen, but one thing is certain: Harley Quinn sure knows how to create a shenanigan, with or without Lobo.
