Blue Lock: Episode Nagi Ending Explained

Blue Lock: Episode Nagi Ending Explained

Warning! Contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Blue Lock The Movie -Episode Nagi-!

Summary Blue Lock: The Movie -Episode Nagi- focuses on Nagi Seishiro's perspective in the Blue Lock competition.

Nagi's newfound passion for soccer and independence strain his friendship with Reo.

The film's finale sets up the upcoming Blue Lock season two, premiering on Crunchyroll in October 2024.

Blue Lock: The Movie -Episode Nagi- was released in American movie theaters on June 28, 2024. The film follows Nagi Seishiro, one of the soccer players who was recruited to play in the cutthroat Blue Lock competition created by Jinpachi Ego. The first season of the Blue Lock anime centered around the main character, Isagi Yoichi, and his perspective on the contest, while this movie chose to portray the events through Nagi's eyes.

The film begins with Nagi and Reo's first encounter. Reo tripped over Nagi, who was sitting on the steps playing video games, and unintentionally discovered his genetic predisposition to being excellent at soccer. Nagi, however, was quite disinterested and indifferent to Reo's proposition that he should play the sport.

Video games seemed like a more worthy use of time to Nagi, who carefully avoided anything he considered "boring." Spending time with his first real friend, Reo, began to provide him with entertainment, so he begrudgingly agreed to continue playing soccer and even entered the Blue Lock competition when invited.

Nagi Discovered a Newfound Passion for Soccer but This Came at a Cost

Nagi’s Independence and Individualism as a Player Put a Sizable Strain on His Friendship With Reo

Close

The film is essentially a recap of the first season of Blue Lock, covering ultimately the exact same moments from a different character's perspective. There are some additional new scenes that outline Nagi and Reo's soccer journeys before arriving at Blue Lock, though. The movie follows Nagi's character arc mostly, presenting his incredible transformation from a lazy, eternally bored slacker to someone who feels genuine excitement and joy on the soccer field. Losing to Isagi and realizing he must fight in order to win soccer games shifted Nagi's mindset completely, provoking a newfound desire to be the best soccer player worldwide.

As admirable and satisfying as it is to see Nagi's soccer passion ignite, this occurrence is a double-edged sword, bringing with it the downfall of Nagi and Reo's friendship. After making it through the first elimination, the players were tasked with choosing teams for the next challenge. Nagi was invited to join Bachira and Isagi, and he accepted, destroying Reo's happiness and trust in his friend. Nagi made the choice that would benefit him most individually as a player, adhering to the ideals espoused in Blue Lock, but in the process, drove a wedge between himself and his very first friend.

The Film’s Finale Lays the Groundwork for the Upcoming Second Season

Blue Lock Season Two Is Coming to Crunchyroll This October 2024

The ending of the film leads well into the upcoming second season of the Blue Lock anime that is set to release in October 2024 on the Crunchyroll streaming platform. In these final moments of the film, the Blue Lock players prepare for their next test, which is the most difficult they have faced thus far. Rather than playing against one another, as they did previously, they will be playing against Japan's U-20 team. If the Blue Lock players lose the competition, the Japan U-20 players will compete in the World Cup instead of them, raising the stakes higher than ever.

Ego's stress is at an all-time high, as he realizes his treasured Blue Lock project is at risk of ending very soon if his players do not excel against the Japan U-20 team. Thankfully, the Blue Lock players have been fiercely motivated by previous matches. Each one has improved greatly in their own way, unlocking new abilities and a greater drive to become the best player of all time. Since weaker players were gradually eliminated from the game, only the best are left. This final scene shows these talented players preparing for the biggest game of their lives in season two.

The Film Boasts Two Post-Credit Scenes Relevant to Blue Lock Season Two

These Scenes Are Not Just Entertaining, but Emotional and Integral to the Upcoming Season

In addition to this intense ending scene, two post-credit scenes are featured in Blue Lock: The Movie -Episode Nagi-. The first of the two takes place right before the pivotal game against Japan's U-20 team. Jinpachi Ego, fearless leader of the Blue Lock project, shares some words of inspiration with his players to hype them up for the undoubtedly tough game before them. This motivational sequence also reveals a heartwarming scene between Reo and Nagi, hinting that their friendship was perhaps not completely destroyed. Although their friendship is different now, Reo cheers Nagi on, supporting his friend as always.

Following this first post-credit scene is another surprising second scene at the end of the credits, so it could easily be missed by those who do not wait until the movie theater lights turn back on to exit. This moment features some new characters having an interaction with Reo, in which they offer inspiring words. These new players are Tabito Karasu, Kenyu Yukimiya, Ranze Kurona, and Eita Otoya. Their wise sentiments urge Reo to essentially fight as an individual until he can surpass Nagi and leave him in the dust, heading towards hopefully becoming an accomplished player on his own.

This dramatic ending provided an amazing closing to the film and an excellent lead-up to Blue Lock season two. In this upcoming second season, the Blue Lock players will engage in a high-stakes game with the potential to either immediately end or skyrocket their careers. Winners will emerge famous, qualified to participate in the World Cup as representatives of Japan's team, while losers will be barred from the world of soccer entirely. The new season of Blue Lock will likely have more action, emotion, and drama than the previous one and the Episode Nagi film has done a perfect job setting this up.
