Fallout London Announces Major Upgrade & Good News For Release Date

Summary The Fallout: London mod is nearing launch after overcoming development setbacks.

The mod will have its own installer and downgrader to prevent compatibility issues.

The mod offers a unique, non-canon story set in a retro-futuristic London with new factions and enemies.

Despite its numerous setbacks, the massive Fallout 4 mod Fallout: London is closer than ever to launching as developer Team FOLON dropped some exciting news for its followers. While the expansive add-on was initially meant to launch in early 2024, development was forced to pause and pivot after Bethesda dropped a "Next Gen" patch for Fallout 4, breaking many of the mod's systems. After months of recalibration, it seems a release is inevitable as the group working on the project has made some significant strides to ensure nothing messes with the mod again.

Posted by Team FOLON on X (formerly Twitter), the group confirmed that "the end is in sight" as it works with digital storefront Good Old Games (GOG) to conduct quality assurance on the mod and its installer.

The announcement that the add-on will come with its own installer and downgrader is fantastic news for fans as it should ensure that Fallout: London remains playable and stable if Bethesda drops another update. While no specific release date was included in the post, it's still encouraging to know that extra steps are being taken to prevent another major delay or breakage.

What To Expect From Fallout: London

A Post-Apocalyptic RPG Over The Pond

Close

Perhaps one of the most ambitious mods ever created for Fallout 4, if not the most ambitious, Fallout: London aims to deliver more of what fans love about Bethesda's RPG with a unique setting. The mod will tell an original non-canon story set within the crumbling ruins of the titular London, allowing users to get a sense of the scale of destruction that consumed the world during the Great War. The environments have been lovingly crafted to bring a retro-futuristic London to life and with full voice-acting, it promises to be a massive adventure.

Mechanically speaking, Fallout: London will play very similarly to Fallout 4 with plenty of additional weapons and items to bring the game more in line with its theme. Several key franchise components, like Vaults, Super Mutants, and Deathclaws, won't be present in London given that many of these are based exclusively in the United States, meaning the mod's team had to get creative regarding the lore and enemies. It will also feature new factions similarly vying for control of the fallen city much like the New California Republic and Caeser's Legion in New Vegas.

Despite the delays, Fallout: London couldn't have come at a better time as Fallout 4 recently experienced a resurgence in popularity thanks to Prime Video's Fallout series. As players both new and old gravitated towards Bethesda's RPG, many will undoubtedly be looking for even more content once they roll credits. A mod like London should keep even the most hardcore fans invested for hours, so news that the launch date is imminent is exciting for everyone.
