The First Descendant: Every Character & How To Unlock Them
In The First Descendant, players can try out a wide range of characters, but unlocking them can be a bit of a challenge. There are 14 total Descendants that players can unlock, along with five special, or Ultimate, versions of some of those characters. Each of these characters has their own set of abilities and unique traits, letting you decide how you want to play the game.
Characters like Ajax in The First Descendant offer players different styles of play and unique abilities. Each character comes with a Role, several different skills, a passive ability, and occasionally an Attribute as well. Ultimate characters are alternate versions of some of the standard Descendants who come with enhanced stats.

How To Unlock More Descendants
Store & Story Progression
There are two main ways to unlock Descendants. The first is to open the in-game store and use it to purchase a Descendant with real money using the premium currency known as Caliber. This allows you to have instant access, and the shop even offers packages that include XP boosts that last 3 days. YouTuber LaserBolt goes over some of these options in more detail.
At the beginning of the game, you will have to choose between Lepic, Viesa, or Ajax. Once you pick, the other two will have to be unlocked like the rest of the Descendants.
The second main way to unlock characters in The First Descendant is to unlock them through Anais’ research. You will typically need four items and Gold to unlock each character, which can be earned by finding quests that reward players with the items. Gold is typically earned through each mission, and you can target quests that reward you with the necessary items.
The four items you will need are a Code, Spiral Catalyst, Enhanced Cells, and Stabilizer - all specific to that character and all of which will require other components to build. You will also have to wait for the Descendant to be “researched” after compiling the parts and paying the research cost (Gold).
This is a much slower way to find the Descendants, and if there is an option you really want to play as, you will likely have a long wait unless you purchase it. With that in mind, here is how to unlock each Descendant:
