Time Bandits Can Be Apple TV+'s Next Big Hit Thanks To Waititi & Clement

Close

While attempts were previously made to expand the 1981 movie with a sequel and the long wait for the TV show to come to fruition, the Time Bandits reboot could very well be a bona fide hit for Apple TV+ thanks to having Waititi and Clement at the helm. Going back to their early days on Flight of the Conchords and Eagle vs Shark, the creative duo have yet to have a true miss in their partnerships, and their recent work on TV in particular is a promising sign of what's to come from the show.

Related Time Bandits Ending Explained Terry Gilliam's imaginative fantasy film Time Bandits stretched the boundaries of what was possible in movies, and its ending left many questions.

Having already adapted their What We Do in the Shadows movie into a TV show that's about to conclude with season 6, they've shown a strong grasp of understanding what makes a film work and how to expand a feature-length story into a multi-episode project. Additionally, Waititi recently found success in the similarly genred Our Flag Means Death on Max, and with him being a household name for the past two Thor movies, it would be a big selling point for viewers to watch.

Beyond Waititi and Clement, though, Time Bandits has the potential to be a big success thanks to Apple TV+'s own growing library of titles that are making them a worthwhile rival in the streaming landscape. Whether it's the more thought-provoking sci-fi thriller, the blockbuster Monsterverse expansion Monarch: Legacy of Monsters or the uplifting comedy Ted Lasso, the platform has become a viable competitor, and having a rousing adventure in the vein of Waititi and Clement's reboot could very well skyrocket them even further.

Time Bandits premieres on Apple TV+ on July 24.
