10 Best Early Weapons To Get In Fallout: London
Fallout: London is a DLC-sized mod for Fallout 4 created by Team FOLON, a group of game enthusiasts dedicated to creating and re-imagining the world of Fallout 4, and it includes a few early-game weapons that can really give you an advantage. According to Team FOLON, the lower number of guns in Fallout: London is unrelated to the real-world UK gun regulations. Despite this, Team FOLON leans a bit more into haberdashery and hodge-podge, do-it-yourself makeshift and melee weapons, with some of the best weapons in the game leaning more towards the medieval.
Maintaining the base game's post-apocalyptic flair, Team FOLON takes the signature Fallout flavor and extracts it from the hills of the USA, taking players to industrial London instead. Follow Fallout: London's new lore, meet new factions, and find new weapons in this free-to-play mod that is available to play now. With all this new content, it's tricky to know the strongest weapons. If you're unsure what weapons to pick up as you play, here are some of the better ones to choose early on.

10 Your Fists
No Guns? No Problems.
After you exit your capsule, much like in the original Fallout 4, no weapons can be found. You're lost, scared, and armed with nothing but your fists, so your fists must do. This isn't the best option, but your fists are all you'll have for a few early encounters. Thankfully, the prologue of this mod is only stocked with low-level mutants, so your trusty hands will be enough to see you through.
Though you don't yet have a firearm, you can collect some ammo for later on as you explore the laboratory.
Not only are the enemies before you gain your first real weapon pretty weak, but you can also run away from fights if you're not sure you can win. Use VATs mode to check your opponents out and decide if the struggle is worth the XP they reward. Keep following the quests' instructions, leading you to your first real weapon.
9 The Balisong
16 Damage Is Nothing To Sneeze At
When you unlock the main quest, "On the Mend," you're going to start finding many more weapons of all types. As you begin exploring London, you'll meet Sebastian Guant, who will give you a Balisong knife that deals 16 damage. He'll give it to you no matter what choices you pick here, so you're free to say what you want.
Its attacks are pretty quick, so if you're not a fan of a slower melee weapon, pick this one for higher SPS (slices per second.) You can also pause fights by opening the Pipboy to swap weapons, so if the Balisong isn't working for you, you can switch it at any time. Either way, a free knife is a free knife, and this one is a pretty good weapon to start with.
8 The Walking Cane
17 Damage
Damage Speed Weight 10 Medium 2
Right after you reach the ticket gates at the London Bridge Station, you'll be able to pick up your first true weapon: the Walking Cane. You might as well equip it right away because it deals a hefty 17 damage. This is better than your bare hands and will set you up better for encounters moving forward.
7 The Flare Gun
Not Really A Typical Gun, But Shooting Is Shooting
Damage Speed Weight 10+110 Radiation N/A 2
As you follow the main quest, you'll find the Thamesfolk in their hideout underground. As you explore, you'll make your way to the southern entrance of the old tube station. In this station, follow the flooded tunnels until you reach a few tin-can chain alarms, which mark someone's old abode.
Once you complete this step of the main quest, the Thamesfolk will open their store to you. Their wares include firearms, so keep this in mind as you earn tickets and play.
Inside, you'll find a bed and a cooking setup. Check the bedside table for the Flare Gun and a few flares. This unconventional firearm isn't necessarily the best for damage. It fires and reloads pretty quickly, but it gets the job done as one of the first ranged weapons you'll pick up. To see it in action, look at Benjamin's video on YouTube.
6 9mm Pistol
Your First Gun
Damage Speed Weight 18 N/A 3
After a tutorial of you and your fists against the world, you can grab (read: steal) your first gun from a store right before you enter the ticket gates leading to the Shard. Exiting the Shard lab, check the first store on the left by the ticket gate. Head behind the counter and pick the novice-level lock on the safe below it to grab the 9mm Pistol and six rounds for it as well.
These six rounds won't last forever, but you should have picked some more up in the lab you just left. Regardless, the lack of ammo is a pretty limiting factor when considering the usefulness of this weapon.
5 Tactical Six-Crank Laser Musket
A Fusion Cell Gun For When You Can't Upgrade Laser Guns
While there are a few energy weapons in Fallout London, the Laser Musket works better than the rifles and pistols in its base form. The base Laser Musket has a higher base damage than the pistol and rifle, so it's a better choice before you have the resources to grab those upgrades. These resources are harder to come by, making the Laser Musket the best option in the early game.
4 The Hunting Rifle
For All Your Long-Range Needs
Damage Speed/Fire Rate Weight 37 3 9.6
Like the Laser Musket, the Hunting Rifle isn't a standout in the late game, but its base form does more damage than other weapons, like the pipe weapons. To grab it early, head to Walden Pond and enter the sewer through the grate there. Inside, you'll encounter a few raiders; kill them and loot the duffle bag against the cave wall for a variation of the Hunting Rifle. If you're unsure where to go, check out VinylicPumaGaming's video for an explanation and info about a few other weapons you can try.
If you're planning on picking up the Huntsman perk, this weapon is especially powerful. This perk outscales other rifles, like the Pipe Bolt-Action Rifle. If you're planning on leaning into pistol gameplay, you might find the Pipe Bolt-Action Rifle's ability to be turned into a pistol more your speed. No matter what perks you pick up, the Hunting Rifle will surely set you up for success with its damage early in the game.
3 Pickman's Blade
This Legendary Weapon Can Make Your Opponents Bleed
This melee weapon is strong but shows its limits against certain enemy types. Pickman's Blade deals 25 points of stackable bleed damage to enemies, which adds up quickly to deal massive amounts of damage but has a drawback. As a combat knife, you can't really wear power armor while using it, or you lose the benefit of its quick attacks.
Additionally, the knife is much weaker against larger and armored enemies. While it can clear rooms of human opponents, you'll have a harder time seeing this work well against mutant or otherwise armored foes. That being said, you'll have no trouble finding it useful when you rescue Churchill the Bulldog; fighting off the street dogs attacking him will be a cinch with a blade like this.
2 Righteous Authority
Critical Hits Hit Even Harder
Damage Speed/Fire Rate Weight 26 50 5.5
This laser weapon is first obtained by helping Paladin Danse and his Brotherhood in the "Call to Arms" questline. If you don't choose the Brotherhood of Steel faction, you can still grab this gun after completing the main questline of any other faction. This gun's modifier, "Lucky," grants double damage on any critical hits while also filling the critical meter 15% faster in VATS mode, just like it did in the base game, shown by VinylicPumaGaming on YouTube.
If you're confident in your aim, Righteous Authority is the gun for you. It takes fusion cell ammo and has 27 rounds in the mag, so you'll have plenty of shots before you need to reload. Hitting critical shots will see you mowing down enemies in no time, and you can even further improve the gun by modifying it with parts.
1 Fat Man
Grab This Weapon Super Early
To perhaps no one's surprise, the best weapon to grab early on in Fallout: London is the Fat Man. What might surprise some players is how you can grab this explosive-heavy weapon early on. Right after leaving Sanctuary, head to the Robotics Disposal Ground.
Find the Fat Man sitting in an old car behind the deactivated sentry bot. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with ammo. There's one mini-nuke in the Disposal Ground sitting by some tires, but there are scant other places to find ammo for this powerful weapon so early in the game.
You can find a few more at Gorski Cabin, Sattelite Station Olivia, and at the wreck of the USS Riptide on your way to Diamond City. While the tradeoff of this gun's power is that ammo is hard to come by, this doesn't stop it from topping the list as the best weapon to try out early on.
You can't play Fallout: London without owning Fallout 4, but this mod revamps everything you know from the official title. From the location change to new factions and weapons that fit right into the English milieu, you'll have hours of new content to explore in this full-size expansion from Team FOLON. Though it's not official, and its lore implications have no impact on the game's actual storyline, there's still a lot in the game worth experiencing.
