Futurama Finally Brings Back 2 Of My Favorite Bender Variants, Over A Decade Later

Summary "The One Amigo" in Futurama season 12 brings back Bender variants Universe 1 Bender and Titanius Anglesmith through NFTs.

The Easter egg in the episode references beloved Bender versions, like Universe 1 Bender and Titanius Anglesmith, from past episodes.

Although missed opportunities exist, "The One Amigo" was the perfect time to feature these classic Bender variants in Futurama season 12.

Futurama has finally returned for season 12, and the new batch of episodes has finally brought back two of my favorite Bender variants. Throughout Futurama's 12 seasons, there have been all kinds of different versions of Bender, with his family members and alternate-universe depictions being littered throughout the show. While these Bender variants rarely reappear after their debut episodes, Futurama season 12 has finally referenced two of them for the first time in years.

Futurama season 12, episode 1, "The One Amigo" kicks off the newest season with a Bender-centric episode, following Bender as he tracks down his origins in Mexico in order to meet more of his family. The film sheds some light on Bender's relatives, with the episode acting as a celebration of the character's history. Interestingly, the episode features a reference to two Bender variants from some of my favorite Futurama stories, and I couldn't be happier to see the show finally give them a nod.

Futurama Season 12, Episode 1 Brings Back Universe 1 Bender & Titanius Anglesmith

For The First Time In Years

Although they don't truly appear in the episode, Futurama season 12, episode 1 features an Easter egg that brings back Universe 1 Bender and Titanius Anglesmith, two of my favorite versions of Bender. In the episode, Bender decides to sell NFTs of his likeness, with him wearing various costumes while photographing himself in order to create the line of NFTs.

While many of these Bender NFTs are seemingly random costumes, two of them are direct references to these beloved Bender variants. In one NFT, Bender's metal plating turns to gold, with this being the same look as the golden Universe 1 Bender from the episode "The Farnsworth Parabox." In another NFT, Bender is dressed up as a medieval knight, with this being the exact same look as Bender's Dungeons & Dragons character Titanius Anglesmith from the Futurama movie Bender's Game.

Bender's Game was split up and aired as separate episodes of Futurama.

"The One Amigo" Was The Perfect Time To Bring Back These Classic Bender Variants

It Would've Been A Shame If Futurama Missed This Opportunity

Of all the times that Futurama could have brought back these Bender variants, "The One Amigo" was the perfect option. The episode is all about Bender wanting to find his family members in order to prove his uniqueness, with this being a response to his likeness being sold as an NFT. So, including these two unique Bender variants highlights just how outstanding the Planet Express crew's Bender is.

Although I do love these two versions of Bender, "The One Amigo" did miss the opportunity to bring back several Bender clones. For example, the beloved Futurama villain Flexo could have returned in this episode, or at least been references. While I do still miss these other Bender associates, it is at least nice for Futurama season 12 to bring these characters back.
