Per Pure Xbox, Inverge Studios' gorgeous action-adventure game Creatures of Ava will be released on Xbox Game Pass as a Day-One release on August 7. Published by 11 bit Studios, the company behind beloved titles like Frostpunk and The Invincible, Creatures of Ava is described as a "unique creature-saver game" where players step into the role of Vic, a young explorer tasked with investigating a strange planet known as Ava. Over the course of her adventure, she'll befriend many of the titular critters and acquire their skills and abilities to explore even further.

Based on Inverge Studios' description of the game, Creatures of Ava will allow players to tame over 20 unique alien creatures, using their knowledge of their homeworld to gain a deeper understanding of the planet. It's not all fun though as Vic quickly learns that the fauna is under threat by a strange infection called The Withering which could potentially destroy the entire ecosystem. Across four biomes, players will need to work together with their new friends to push The Withering back and, in the process, help Vic unpack her troubled past.

Playing like a standard third-person action-adventure game, Creatures of Ava is specially designed with non-aggressive combat mechanics in mind. That means in place of a sword or firearm, Vic uses an indigenous flute to tame wildlife and help heal the corruption spreading across the planet. Perhaps most exciting is that the story is co-created by Rhianna Pratchett, a veteran writer known for her work on Beyond Divinity, Tomb Raider (2013), and Mirror's Edge.

Creatures of Ava is already an exciting addition to the Xbox Game Pass library but it's not the only game lined up for August. As mentioned above, the excellent Mafia: Definitive Edition is slated to arrive on August 13 which will be followed by indie hit Core Keeper on August 27. Rumor has it Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy will arrive on August 8 but this has yet to be confirmed.
