Spoilers are ahead for All American season 6's finale.

Summary All American season 7 faces major changes after Spencer and Olivia's NYC move and Coop's tough school decision.

Jordan discovers a family secret in season 6, setting up some potential drama for All American season 7.

With a rumored new cast, All American season 7 will likely be a big departure from past outings.

In the wake of the show's sixth season finale, All American season 7 has some big questions that it needs to answer, especially since it seems like the next outing will be something of a departure for The CW's popular sports drama. Based on the true story of Spencer Paysinger's career, All American centers on rising football star Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), a South Los Angeles student who's recruited to play for Beverly Hills High. In addition to introducing All American's cast of characters, the first few seasons focus heavily on Spencer's colliding worlds of Crenshaw and Beverly Hills.

The ending of All American season 6 is marked by lots of changes for the long-standing core characters. After years of ups and downs, Spencer and Olivia Baker (Samantha Logan) finally tie the knot ahead of their big move to New York. Meanwhile, Spencer's best friend, Coop (Bre-Z), grapples with her next big life move, and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Layla (Greta Onieogou) inherit the Baker family home from Laura (Monét Mazur), who puts the deed to the house in their names. Between happy endings and dramatic cliffhangers, All American sets up an exciting season 7.

7 Coop's Law School Decision

Spencer's Best Friend Is Torn Between GAU & Yale In All American Season 6's Finale

Close

In All American season 6, episode 14, "I Do (Part 2)," Coop receives some exciting news right off the bat: she got into Golden Angeles University's (GAU) law school program. Surprisingly, things take a turn when she's also accepted to Yale's law school; although it's theoretically good news, Coop doesn't celebrate. Later on, Coop has a heart-to-heart with Spencer on the swing set, revealing that she's not so jazzed about Yale because she doesn't feel like Ivy League material. The GAU-Yale divide isn't unlike the Crenshaw vs. Beverly Hills friction in All American's early seasons.

"You got next," Spencer tells Coop during his pep talk, encouraging her to choose whatever school feels right.

Spencer reminds Coop that she's been there for everyone else as they've worked toward — and, in some cases, achieved — their life-long dreams. Now, it's finally Coop's turn to put herself first and chase her dreams. "You got next," Spencer tells Coop during his pep talk, encouraging her to choose whatever school feels right. Unfortunately for viewers, All American's season 6 finale doesn't push Coop to make a decision. Given all the rumored cast shakeups, it's possible the show wanted to provide actor Bre-Z with an East Coast-based out, much like Spencer and Olivia's NYC move.

While helping Olivia pack, Jordan comes across Billy's (Taye Diggs) old Crenshaw coaching binder. Excited to review his dad's potentially game-changing plays, Jordan finds something else: a baby photo — of someone Jordan doesn't quite recognize. Later, at Spencer and Olivia's reception, Jordan shows the photo to his grandfather, Willy (Brent Jennings), who reluctantly confirms Billy's estranged older half-brother is in the picture. Like the best football shows, All American has Jordan follow in his father's footsteps, but the newly unearthed family secret certainly complicates things, and All American season 7 needs to explore that dangling thread.

5 Will Spencer & Olivia Have A Guest Appearance In All American Season 7?

Daniel Ezra Confirmed He's No Longer A Series Regular

Close

The show's season six finale is also a formal send-off for All American's star Daniel Ezra, who's exiting the series ahead of season 7. Without Ezra as a series regular, and Spencer as a narrative anchor, All American's next outing will look completely different. In order to give Spencer and Olivia's relationship closure, showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll convinced The CW to increase the show's season 6 order, allowing for the two-part Spelivia wedding finale. With Spencer and Olivia moving to New York, season 7 is positioned to include some guest appearances — if the actors are game.

In the wake of All American season 6's emotional Billy Baker story, Laura decides to start her next chapter and gift the deed to the Baker house to Jordan and Layla. The set-up goes hand-in-hand with the couple getting married and making career moves. Retired from playing football after experiencing a harrowing concussion, Jordan decides to accept a coaching job at South Crenshaw High. 3 Will All American Season 7 Feature A New Main Cast?

Many Series Regulars Were Given An "Out" At The End Of Season 6

Close

With Daniel Ezra not returning as the series' lead, rumors are swirling that All American season 7 will feature a brand-new cast. It would make sense given the state of The CW. In the wake of Nexstar Media Group's acquisition of the network, most of the existing scripted series were canceled. Although All American survived the cuts, the show will likely be subject to budget slashes, which gives the cast shake-up rumors even more credibility. Of course, there are still some All American cast members who need to return, like Jordan and Layla, despite any season 7 changes.

2 Is Billy's Brother Also Going To Be Played By Taye Diggs?

All American Season 7 Could Go Full Soap Opera

Close

Given that Billy Baker returned despite his death in All American season 5, it feels like the show might go into full soap opera mode and cast Taye Diggs as Billy's estranged half-brother. Jordan even makes a remark to his grandfather about the baby picture looking a lot like his father, teasing a strong familial resemblance. The secret sibling plotline is already an example of the TV show jumping the shark a bit, but having Diggs return as said sibling would take the melodrama to a whole new level. Somehow, the wild casting choice seems incredibly plausible.

1 Will All American Season 7 Start With A Time Jump?

Skipping Ahead Is A Great Way To Start Fresh & Reference Old Characters

Close

It's clear that All American season 7 will be different without Spencer at its center, so it would make sense for the show to take a definitive step in a new direction. One way to set up a soft reset is through a time jump. This could allow All American to put existing characters in new roles, all while referencing what non-returning characters have been doing in the interim. If season 7 is looking to center on a new generation of football players, a time jump would be a great way to introduce the new leads of All American.

All American season 6 is streaming on Netflix.
