7 Things I Need To See Happen In Scream 7 With Sidney Back As The Lead Character

7 Things I Need To See Happen In Scream 7 With Sidney Back As The Lead Character

Summary Sidney Prescott needs to reunite with Gale Weathers for the first time since Scream 2022, setting up an exciting on-screen reunion.

Sidney's husband and kids should appear in Scream 7, adding a new dynamic to her character and story.

Sidney should work with Kirby for the first time since Scream 4, bringing back a beloved character and potential storyline.

Neve Campbell is finally returning as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7, and since she is finally back in the leading role, I need to see these seven things happen in the upcoming sequel. Despite being the star of the Scream franchise for the first five films, Neve Campbell chose not to reprise her role in Scream VI due to the pay that the studio offered her being too low. However, the controversial seventh film has had some serious behind-the-scenes issues, and while the path that led here is unfortunate, I couldn't be happier to see Sidney Prescott back in Scream 7.

Outside of the fact that Sidney Prescott is returning for Scream 7, very little is known about the upcoming film, meaning that there is all kinds of room for me to speculate. Despite Sidney only missing one film, there are a lot of in-universe opportunities that the character missed. Luckily, this can be fixed. While it may not be possible to fit all of the following ideas into the story of Scream 7, I think that Sidney needs these beats in her story in order to make up for the time that she has lost.

7 Sidney Needs To Reunite With Gale Weathers

For The First Time Since Scream 2022

Although Neve Campbell didn't return for Scream VI, this isn't the case for every Scream legacy character, as Courteney Cox reprised her role as Gale Weathers once again for the sixth film. After the events of 2022's Scream, Gale moved to New York City, where Scream VI takes place. Gale is heavily involved with the New York Ghostface murders, investigating alongside Tara and Sam Carpenter. Despite her not interacting with Sidney on screen, it is revealed that the two still keep in touch, with Cox's character providing exposition as to what Sidney has been up to.

Although it hasn't been confirmed that Courteney Cox will return for Scream 7, it is expected that she will, as it will make her the only character to appear in every Scream movie. If she does return, she will undoubtedly spend a lot of time with Sidney, reuniting them on-screen for the first time since 2022's Scream. I hope that Scream 7 finally sees this classic Scream duo reunite once again, and while it will be sad due to the death of Dewey, the return of these legacy characters working together would make me even more excited for the release of Scream 7.

6 Sidney's Husband & Kids Need To Appear In Scream 7

After A Scream VI Reveal

Close

Sidney Prescott isn't the only character who I want to see have a major role in Scream 7, as I also want the rest of her family to appear. 2022's Scream revealed that Sidney Prescott is married to Mark Kincaid, a police detective from Scream 3. It was also revealed that the couple has had three kids, although none of these children have appeared in any of the movies. Due to her absence in Scream VI, Gale Weathers explained that Sidney and her family left Woodsboro and are in hiding, although their location remains a mystery.

If Sidney returns for Scream 7, it only makes sense for her family to return as well. I am incredibly excited to see Sidney be part of a happy family, as her motherhood to the three children could add an interesting angle to Scream 7's story. Mark Kincaid could play a major role in the upcoming film, and the kids could even be the younger characters who replace Sam and Tara. These four characters would be a great supporting cast for Sidney, with them being the perfect substitutes for the cast of Scream 5 and Scream VI.

5 Sidney Should Work With Kirby For The First Time Since Scream 4

Bringing Kirby Back From Scream VI

Close

While Sidney didn't return in Scream VI, another beloved Scream character did: Kirby. Hayden Panettiere returned as Kirby Reed in Scream VI for the first time since Scream 4, bringing the character back after years of absence. Kirby was one of the highlights of Scream 4, and since she was such a popular new addition, Scream VI brought her back. I loved this decision, as the return of Kirby partially filled the hole that Sidney left. Kirby was one of my favorite parts of Scream VI, so I really hope that she returns in the next film.

If Kirby does return in Scream 7, that means that she will most likely interact with Sidney at some point, a possibility that I can't wait for. Kirby and Sidney did share several scenes in Scream 4, but they haven't worked together since, meaning that Scream 7 would most likely contain their first reunion in over a decade. It hasn't been revealed if Kirby and Sidney kept contact after the events of Scream 4, so bringing back a trio of Kirby, Sidney, and Gale could make for an interesting trio of legacy characters.

4 Ghostface Needs To Hunt Sidney Down In Her New Home (& Not Woodsboro)

Giving Scream A New Setting

Close

The first five Scream films all took place in the town of Woodsboro, California, with this being the home of Sidney Prescott and many of the other individuals who were tortured by the various Ghostfaces. One of my favorite changes in Scream VI was that it relocated the story to New York City, with it focusing on a collection of Woodsboro characters who made their way to the Big Apple. Ghostface's New York City killings gave the franchise a much-needed refresh, and I think that it would be a shame if Scream 7 returned to Woodsboro.

Luckily, Scream VI's Sidney absence set up the perfect new location. However, we don't know what it is yet. In the film, Gale Weathers explains that Sidney and her family have gone into hiding in an unknown location. Having Sidney return to Woodsboro in Scream VI would hurt her character, meaning that it only makes sense to keep her where she is. Thus, I think the best way to handle the sequel's story is to have the new Ghostface track Sidney down to her new location, setting the film against this backdrop.

3 Sidney Should Learn About The Ghostface Shrine & Cult

Catching Her Up On The Events Of Scream VI

Close

Despite Sidney being absent from the events of Scream VI, the most recent film will undoubtedly have an impact on Scream 7's story, meaning that Sidney will have to get caught up somehow. Thus, Sidney needs to learn about the climax of Scream VI, in which the gang discovers that there are actually multiple Ghostfaces. The three Ghostfaces in Scream VI turn out to be members of a semi-cult that worships past Ghostfaces, with them collecting memorabilia from the previous films and setting up a museum dedicated to the iconic killer.

Since so many of the Ghostface killers represented in this shrine were directly tied to Sidney, she needs to learn about it. It would be interesting for her to realize that, even though she has disappeared, Ghostface killings won't stop, with this curse just getting passed onto someone else. This could be what causes Sidney to realize that she needs to come back into the spotlight, with her deciding to bear the weight of Ghostface's legacy rather than letting the killers continue to target other victims.

2 Sidney Prescott Needs To Uncover Who Ghostface Is Before The Reveal

She Should Know By Now

Close

One of my favorite parts of the Scream franchise is that it isn't just a slasher series. It is also a murder mystery. The mystery surrounding who each Ghostface killer is is incredibly interesting, and I always try to figure out who Ghostface is before the reveal. However, 2022's Scream and Scream VI made it a bit too easy to figure out who the Ghostface killers are, with the characters seeming a bit dumb for not picking up on the clues.

It is possible that Scream 7 could have this problem, something that can be fixed by having Sidney figure it out before the mask is pulled off. Sidney has dealt with Ghostface killers enough times now that she knows how they usually work. So, if anyone is qualified to properly solve a Ghostface mystery, it is her. She should use her decades of experience to, alongside Gale Weathers and Kirby, actually deduce who Ghostface is, finally giving her a leg up on the killer who is hunting her.

1 Scream 7 Should Finally Give Sidney Closure

Putting An End To The Franchise

Close

There is no sign that Scream 7 is the last Scream film, and since Sidney's return wasn't initially planned for the sequel, it would make since that it isn't. However, bringing Sidney back once again after her already getting a legacy sequel with 2022's Scream makes me want nothing more than the film to finally give her some closure. Sidney has been haunted by Ghostface for decades now, and while Scream VI's Sidney absence made it seem like she finally found peace, her Scream 7 return means that this isn't the case.

However, I think that Sidney's return means that Scream 7 should finally close the book on the franchise, giving Sidney Prescott a happy ending. Sidney finally has a family and has escaped Ghostface for a short time, so it would be far too depressing for me to see her life spiral into tragedy once again. Since Scream 7 is a slasher movie, some people are bound to die, but I think that it would be a missed opportunity if Scream 7 doesn't give Sidney the peace that she has been looking for for decades.
