Other varieties of paranormal romance are possible in The Sims 4 thanks to a variety of post-launch content.
A recent patch for The Sims 4 has made it easier for players to relive a classic, and somewhat strange, moment from 90s pop culture. This patch came just ahead of The Sims 4: Lovestruck expansion and added some new romance options to enhance the DLC's upcoming features. Though the patch initially had some unintended consequences for romance in The Sims 4, things have since been smoothed out and Sim life is getting back to normal.
The pre-Lovestruck patch's additions introduced elements to The Sims 4’s romances, like allowing Sims to start and end relationships on their own through the Neighborhood Stories feature. While Neighborhood Stories and new Romantic Boundaries got most of the attention from the update, it was a more overlooked feature that lets players live out their 90s romance dreams. That is, if they have a very specific taste in 90s romance movies.

Way back in 2014, The Sims 4 added a feature that made ghost Sims playable. This allowed them to do anything a normal Sim could, including getting romantically involved with other Sims. However, until the most recent patch, players could not easily ask ghost Sims on a date from their Relationship Panel. With the addition of this feature, players can now much more easily ask ghost Sims out on a date, making it that much easier to reenact a famous paranormal romance from the 1990s.
Though paranormal romance would explode into the mainstream with the Twilight fandom in the 2000s, it has been around for a long time. The 90s specifically had quite a few popular paranormal romance movies. Ghost, starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, is one such paranormal romance that has lived on in the public consciousness largely because of its iconic pottery scene. The Sims 4 players wishing to recreate a similar romance with a ghostly partner will now have an easier time thanks to this update, though they will need a little extra help to fully recreate Ghost’s most iconic scene.
A Mod Allows Sims 4 Players To Make Pottery
Pottery Was Previously Available In Older Sims Games
Funnily enough, while The Sims 4 allows players to do something as outlandish as dating a ghost, it doesn’t allow them to do a relatively mundane task like making pottery. This was previously a feature in The Sims 2: FreeTime, but it has yet to make its way to The Sims 4 officially. Luckily, players who are looking to fully recreate Ghost’s most iconic scene can achieve their goal with the help of some user-created custom content.
A mod for The Sims 4 initially created by Mod The Sims user MiraiMayonaka adds a functional pottery wheel to the game. This mod also adds the pottery skill, which has 10 levels and allows players to make their own pottery. The custom skill also allows players to sell their pottery for money, which makes it a viable source of income similar to the writing or painting skills from the base game.
Though the mod doesn’t include a way for two Sims to sensually make pottery together, this is the closest approximation players are likely to get to Ghost’s iconic scene for now. Still, players can likely find a way to get creative and do their best to get close to the original scene. Thanks to The Sims 4’s many options, there are other romantic 90s movies that players can recreate if they so choose.
The Sims 4 Is Very Accommodating Of Paranormal Romances
Players Can Romance Vampires & Even Death
Close
Ghost is far from the only paranormal romance movie to come out in the 90s, and The Sims 4 offers quite a few options for recreating other favorites of the decade. The Sims 4: Vampires game pack makes it possible to recreate famous films like Interview with the Vampire or even Bram Stoker’s Dracula if players also have the Castle Estate Kit. Since The Sims 4 also allows players to romance the Grim Reaper, they can relive Meet Joe Black.
With The Sims 4 Lovestruck adding even more romance options to the game, fans of romantic movies have many different ways to relive some of their favorite movies from the genre in the game. There are also plenty of mods like WickedWhims that open up more romance options for players who might not want to spend money on DLC for it. Either way, The Sims 4 has a lot of fun tools for recreating fan-favorite moments from famous movies.
