Star Wars' New TV Show Revives A Great Disney Tradition I've Missed For 5 Years
Summary Star Wars: Skeleton Crew revives the holiday tradition of Star Wars releases in December, bringing back that festive magic.
The show ties the joy of Christmas with the beloved galaxy far, far away, creating a perfect festive atmosphere for fans.
Bringing back the feeling after five years, Skeleton Crew promises to delight fans with a story set in the New Republic timeline.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is bringing back a lost Disney tradition from five years ago, and I couldn't be happier. Since the show was announced, I have been eagerly anticipating updates about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The initial announcement of the show excited me in many ways, from the creative team whose past works I enjoyed to the strong cast led by Jude Law and the promise of the show fitting into Star Wars' New Republic timeline.
However, further updates about Skeleton Crew since then have been few and far between. That is until the release date of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was revealed, finally giving me - and many others - answers on when we can expect the upcoming Star Wars TV show to be released on Disney+. This news alone was exciting, as it proved the marketing campaign for the up-to-now-mysterious show is finally underway. Moreover, the release date brought back a Disney tradition that has not been seen for five years, which I am very excited has returned.
Skeleton Crew Means Star Wars Is Back At Christmas
The Holiday Season Is For Star Wars Once More

The release date for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was confirmed as December 3, 2024, meaning the franchise is reclaiming the Holiday period once more. Shortly after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm, this became the norm for Star Wars. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released in December 2015, with December 2016 marking the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Star Wars: The Last Jedi then released worldwide in December 2017, with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker doing the same two years later for the Christmas period of 2019.
The only theatrical project to be released in the summer movie period since Disney acquired Lucasfilm was Solo: A Star Wars Story. It is no coincidence that Solo is the only movie in the entire franchise that can be considered a flop, considering the previous Disney trend solidified the franchise as one that works in the Holiday months. Since 2019, however, Star Wars releases have been scattered throughout the year, none falling in December, besides the final few episodes of The Mandalorian season 2. With Skeleton Crew, Disney Star Wars is tied to Christmas again, at last.

It's Great To Get Star Wars Back In The Holidays
Star Wars Aligns Nicely With The Yuletide Joy Of Christmas
If I hadn't made this clear already, I am incredibly happy that Star Wars is back for Christmas. My journey as a Star Wars fan began this way, after all. I was too young to see the Star Wars prequels in theaters, meaning my first experience with a theatrical Star Wars movie came with The Force Awakens in December 2015. Since then, I have tied the Holidays closely with a galaxy far, far away. It even felt strange for me to see Solo: A Star Wars Story in the summer heat of May 2018, proving how much I valued Christmas and Star Wars being in close proximity.
The magic of the Star Wars galaxy just fits well with the jubilation of the Christmas period...
The reason for this ties to the simple joy I get from both Star Wars and Christmas. The feeling is very similar, and the magic of the Star Wars galaxy just fits well with the jubilation of the Christmas period. While it may not be a theatrical release, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is bringing that feeling back to me after five years, and I simply could not be more thrilled.
