Sword Art Online's ever-so-popular spin-off series Gun Gale Online has finally revealed an exact release date for its highly anticipated second season. First announced back in July 2023 at the 30th Dengeki Bunko Summer Festival, Gun Gale Online is set to return for season 2 this Fall, over six years after its first season aired.

An announcement on X by the anime's official account has revealed that season 2 of Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online will be released in Japan on Wednesday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 p.m. Japanese Standard Time (JST). The announcement was originally made during the Aniplex x Kadokawa Anime Festival live stream on Friday.

Streaming and simulcast information for the upcoming season is yet to be announced, though the first season, consisting of 13 episodes, is available on Crunchyroll. The exact episode count for season 2 is also yet to be revealed but will likely be announced sooner or later on the anime's official website or social media handles.

Gun Gale Online Returns After Six Years

Based on the light novels by Keiichi Sigsawa and Kouhaku Kuroboshi, Gun Gale Online is a spin-off series set in the same world as Sword Art Online by Reki Kawahara. The first season of Gun Gale Online aired back in April 2018 and was an instant hit both in and outside of Japan leading to quite a bit of anticipation for season 2.

While the first season was produced by Studio 3Hz, season 2 of Gun Gale Online will be produced by A-1 Pictures who have recently stepped into the spotlight with highly popular series like Solo Leveling, Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines and Mashle: Magic and Muscles.
