The label next to the artwork confirmed that it was indeed Skyla in the red dress and the photo was clicked on the dance floor at the “Black prom” in Vidalia, Georgia in 2009. Skyla was 18 years old then. She spoke about how she went to “both proms” because she couldn’t take her boyfriend Barry to the “white prom the night before.” Skyla wasn’t sure if what she was doing was “racist.”

She also confessed that she felt Barry’s family didn’t accept her “fully” because of her being white. Skyla wanted Barry’s family to see how “good” they were together as a couple.

Barry was incarcerated at the time and legitimation is the only legal action a father of a child born out of wedlock in the State of Georgia may take to establish “legal rights” to his child, as per Georgia law. A father could gain legitimation over his children if he were to marry the mother of their shared child. Barry wasn’t present at the hearing and Skyla made an oral motion to dismiss the case “for lack of prosecution.”

The case was dismissed “without prejudice.” Angela was involved in fighting the case with Skyla. She even posted about her win on Instagram and posed with Skyla and her attorney for a picture. Angela had thanked the attorney and called him the best attorney in South Georgia. At the time, fans had wondered if Angela was seeing a lawyer regarding marital issues with Michael.
