Granted, some will argue that the best heroes are ones who are allowed to evolve and grow up with time.

AIPT Comics offers a preview for the upcoming Marvel 85th Anniversary Special #1 that shows that it's time for Ms. Marvel to evolve. Celebrating the 50,000th comic released by Marvel, the special is an anthology collecting several stories that celebrate Marvel's history. The part that may stand out most to readers is that Ms. Marvel's greatest triumph awaits her. It seems that with age comes victory, as the future will see Ms. Marvel achieving her greatest accolade as a superhero. For her entire existence in the Marvel Universe, Ms. Marvel has always been a teenage girl with little to no growth. She's never been older than the age of 16 despite being an active hero for more than a decade.

The closest she's come to growing up is in last year's Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant miniseries, where she attends Empire State University, albeit for her high school's summer program, so yes, still 16. It's also worth noting that a 26-year-old Kamala Khan as Captain Krakoa is depicted in the dark future of Rise of the Powers of X, but because it's a potential future rather than a set one, it doesn't quite count either. If this anniversary special confirms Kamala's actual future, depicting her as an adult, even for a one-off, is something of a milestone for the character.

Ms. Marvel Reaches Her Full Potential By Growing Up

Much Like Other Heroes

Superheroes tend to reach their biggest potential and achievements when storylines allow for them to grow up and improve with age. Spider-Man's adulthood is an example, as much as Marvel can be hesitant to let him finally grow up. Kamala Khan could finally be on the same route. Again, even as a one-off, a story like this could influence other creative teams within Marvel to start allowing Kamala to grow older, even slightly. With age, Ms. Marvel inches closer to realizing her potential as one of Marvel's best heroes.
