Park Seo-joon’s Most Perfect K-Drama Pairing Is Too Good Not To Happen Again

A new collaboration between Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won could be great considering how great their dynamic in Fight For My Way was.

Park Seo-joon’s best K-drama couple came from Fight For My Way, and I would love for him and Kim Ji-won to be on a project together again. From a failed athlete trying to reclaim the dream that was stolen from him to an egoistic owner of a pawnshop fighting monsters in 1994 Korea, Park Seo-joon’s K-drama career includes a lot of great characters. One of the most popular and busy actors of his generation, it is difficult to pick which Park Seo-joon character is the best or most impactful. Still, his performance in Fight For My Way remains a fan favorite.

Although he brings a level of comedy to almost all of his roles, Fight For My Way is Park Seo-joon’s funniest K-drama. The innocence and vulnerability shown by Dong-man are one of the reasons why the show worked so well, especially when he was interacting with Kim Ji-won’s Ae-ra. While I loved seeing Park Seo-joon and Park Min-young in What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim or his great moments with Han So-hee in Gyeongseong Creature, Fight For My Way’s lead couple is one of my favorites in any K-dramas.

They Shined As Dong-man & Ae-rea In Fight For My Way

Seven years after Fight For My Way, I would love for Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won to play the lead characters in a K-drama together again. The actors have not been in a project together since Fight For My Way, although both of their careers have evolved impressively. Park Seo-joon has played several leading roles since 2017, including in instant classics such as Itaewon Class and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim. He currently stars as Tae-sang in Gyeongseong Creature alongside Han So-hee. Kim Ji-won has also been in plenty of great shows since 2017, the most recent being Queen of Tears.

Perhaps the best K-drama of 2024 so far, Queen of Tears was arguably Kim Ji-won’s significant role since Fight For My Way. Her performance as Hae-in was the driving force of the show, and while Kim Soo-hyun also gave an incredible performance, Kim Ji-won was the show’s standout. Interestingly, all of the Crazy Fantastic Four from Fight For My Way shined in 2024 with new K-dramas, serving as a reminder of how great they were together. This is why I would love to see at least a couple of them sharing the screen again.

Dong-man & Ae-ra Have Great Moments In Fight For My Way

Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won’s chemistry is hilariously charming in Fight For My Way. While the series is a slice-of-life K-drama that focuses on several aspects of adult life and not just on relationships, the dynamic between Dong-man and Ae-ra was one of the best things about it. Ae-ra and Dong-man had been friends since they were kids, yet the odds were never in their favor when it came to expressing their feelings for each other. Between other relationships and misunderstandings, it took a while before they realized what they truly felt about each other.

In addition to the will-they-won’t-they romance storyline, the scenes between Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won in Fight For My Way are utterly hilarious. Having known each other for years, the two characters could be as sincere as possible with each other. Dong-man and Ae-ra were always trying to protect each other, which is why their relationship was so fascinating even before they were an actual couple. Their journeys to make their dreams come true were also very compelling, with both Kim Ji-won and Park Seo-joon giving career-defining performances in one of their first K-dramas.

A New Park Seo-joon & Kim Ji-won K-Drama Would Have To Be Very Different

They Have Enough Range To Play Completely Different Characters

It’s not very common for the lead actors of a K-drama to play a couple again in another show. That said, if Kim Ji-won and Park Seo-joon ever star together in another series, I would want it to be very different from Fight For My Way. As much as I loved Dong-man and Ae-ra, both actors have shown that they have a lot of range over the years and can tackle very different characters. It would be amazing to have a Fight For My Way reunion in another show, even if Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won don’t play the leading couple.

Kim Ji-won’s next K-drama after Queen of Tears remains to be announced. Given how popular the show was, the actress will surely be the leading star in whatever project she does next. Likewise, after Gyeongseong Creature season 2 premiers on Netflix, Park Seo-joon’s next K-drama will have to be confirmed. There is nothing to suggest that these two will work on the same project shortly. However, considering the success Kim Ji-won and Park Seo-joon have achieved in the last seven years, a Fight For My Way reunion is long overdue.
