WARNING: This article includes SPOILERS for Sweet Home season 3.

Summary All of Us Are Dead is a perfect replacement for Sweet Home.

Both shows share similarities like being based on webtoons and featuring groups of young characters surviving an apocalypse.

All of Us Are Dead has a larger main cast and a more grounded approach to zombies, and it will continue past its source material like Sweet Home.

Sweet Home is over, but the perfect replacement for the monster K-drama starring Song Kang is already streaming on Netflix with a second season on its way. Following a divisive second chapter, Sweet Home season 3’s ending was a satisfying conclusion for the series. Cha Hyun-su, Lee Eun-hyeok, and Lee Eun-yu had a somewhat happy ending after Nam Sang-wok was defeated and neohumans started to learn how to have feelings again. Sweet Home may have had highs and lows, but its impact and compelling characters cannot be ignored.

Although there are many K-dramas similar to Sweet Home, not all of them have the same tone as the monster show. Sweet Home can be described as a zombie K-drama due to the tropes it uses, yet it is different enough from other zombie shows. That said, Sweet Home’s spiritual successor is indeed a zombie show – All of Us Are Dead. With a similar premise and a rich cast of up-and-coming Korean actors, All of Us Are Dead hits many of the same notes as Sweet Home.

Released in January 2022, All of Us Are Dead continued Netflix’s trend of developing big-budget Korean webseries. Considering that Sweet Home was the first Korean show to enter the streamer’s global Top 10, it is reasonable to assume that the success of the Song Kang K-drama prompted Netflix to continue working with Korean studios and talent. How All Of Us Are Dead Is Different From Sweet Home

All Of Us Are Dead Has A Large Set Of Main Characters

Despite their many similarities, there are also some important differences between Sweet Home and All of Us Are Dead. Whereas Sweet Home’s main character is Song Kang’s Cha Hyun-su, All of Us Are Dead has four protagonists. Cheong-san, On-jo, Nam-ra, and Su-hyeok all get their time in the spotlight in the zombie K-drama, not to mention all the other students who also play important roles in the story. Sweet Home is the story of Hyun-su and how the apocalypse connects to what he is going through, whereas All of Us Are Dead is an ensemble featuring many stories.

Unlike Sweet Home, All of Us Are Dead does not hint at anything supernatural.

All of Us Are Dead is also relatively more grounded than Sweet Home, even though it is difficult to describe a zombie series as realistic. Unlike Sweet Home, All of Us Are Dead does not hint at anything supernatural. The zombies come from the Jonas virus, which Dr. Lee Byeong-chan created in hopes of turning fear into strength. Sweet Home is more reliant on visual effects compared to All of Us Are Dead, as the former features all kinds of creatures, whereas the latter only includes zombies that are often created with makeup and prosthetics.

All Of Us Are Dead Is Continuing Past The Webtoon Like Sweet Home

Of all the similarities between Sweet Home and All of Us are Dead, the biggest of them is how they both continued past the first season despite having already covered their respective webtoons. Sweet Home season 1 adapted the webtoon in its entirety, just like All of Us Are Dead season 1’s finale was very similar to how the Now In Our School webtoon ended. All of Us Are Dead 2 will be an original story, a controversial strategy that Sweet Home 2 also used. Without the source material, an adaptation can become very different.

All of Us Are Dead season 2 still doesn't have a release date.

Sweet Home season 2 looked incredibly different from the first season, from the lack of Cha Hyun-su to the arrival of many new characters who had no counterpart in the webtoon. Additionally, instead of following just one group of characters trying to survive, Sweet Home 2 expanded the scope of the show with new locations and storylines. All of Us Are Dead 2 will most likely do something similar, which does not mean it won’t work. If done right, All of Us Are Dead season 2 can be the bigger and better sequel that Sweet Home 2 couldn’t be.
