Summary Enhance Fallout 4 combat with the "Enhanced Movement" mod for smoother action-packed gameplay.

Improve enemy AI with mods like the Commonwealth Encounter Pack and the Immersive Fallout Combat Mod.

Balance gameplay by testing the new slide against challenging foes like Deadlier Deathclaws.

Given the amount of combat the average Fallout 4 player will see in a campaign, it just makes sense to install this mod which improves movement by making everything much smoother and more action-orientated. One of the most widely held beliefs regarding the fourth mainline game in the Fallout franchise is that while its role-playing elements feel underbaked, its combat is leagues ahead of every other installment. Having said that, it's still fairly clunky, especially when so many modern shooters have figured out how to handle movement through a first-person perspective.

Thanks to bp42s over on Nexus Mods, the "Enhanced Movement" mod adds a wealth of new features to Fallout 4 that make the game more fun to control. Many of the adjustments are minor but have a major impact on movement; Sprinting while outside of combat no longer drains AP while directional movement speed has been reduced by 25% when backpedaling and 15% when strafing. Yet the biggest addition is the ability to slide, which boasts a unique animation and allows the Sole Survivor to use their weapon in the middle of the action.

While it's true that Fallout 4's combat is much better than the likes of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, it could be better. Beyond the clunky movement, enemies aren't especially difficult to defeat given that the AI running them isn't too smart, meaning they either stand in one place waiting to be shot or simply charge ahead with little self-preservation. There are ways to fix this as the modding community has had just under a decade to refine Bethesda's original combat mechanics.

One of the best mods Fallout 4 players can download to spice up combat is the Commonwealth Encounter Pack, which introduces an extra 290 random encounters to the vanilla game. Many of these can be tricky to overcome, making exploration and progression a more meaningful process. To improve enemy AI, the aptly named Immersive Fallout Combat Mod is exactly what's required as it makes foes more intelligent, enabling them to better flank and outmaneuver the Sole Survivor.

Those Fallout 4 players wanting to put their new slide to the test can even do so against suped-up versions of the game's most challenging enemies thanks to the Deadlier Deathclaws mod. Having more realistic movements will likely already make the game much tougher, so it might be the case that installing more difficult mods could be a bridge too far. Finding the balance in battle is essential to enjoying the Commonwealth Wasteland.
