FF7 Remake Part 3 Devs Confirm At Least One Bit Of Fan-Favorite Content Will Return

Summary Fans can expect the return of the addictive Queen's Blood minigame in the third chapter of FF7 Remake Trilogy.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi promises a revamped version of Queen's Blood based on positive feedback from the community.

Queen's Blood, inspired by Triple Triad, has become an instant classic in FF7 Rebirth.

As Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy fans look to the future following the successful launch of Rebirth, many will be pleased to know that one of the series' most addictive minigames is set to return in the third chapter. While some users found the abundance of minigame distractions in Rebirth threw off the game's pacing, some definitely left a major impact on the community. The most successful experience evoked one of the Final Fantasy franchise's most beloved card games to great effect, so fans have been hoping Square Enix won't simply forget it.

Per neo_aoshi on X (formerly Twitter), FF7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi, speaking during the Otacon Anime Convention in Washington DC, noted that the team has received plenty of feedback regarding the Queen's Blood card game.

Having been positively received by so many, Hamaguchi promised that the developers working on the next chapter in the FF7 Remake Trilogy are "preparing a revamped or even better version of Queen's Blood." No further information was provided but the director did promise that more updates on the minigame will be shared closer to the third title's release, exciting everyone in attendance.

Why Is Queen's Blood So Popular?

An Evolution Of A Final Fantasy Classic

Card games have a long and storied legacy in the Final Fantasy franchise, dating all the way back to the eighth installment which introduced Triple Triad. While its implementation was clunky and easily abused thanks to a mechanic that allowed cards to be transformed into items, its addictive gameplay and collection-based growth made it an instant success. It proved so popular that Square evolved Triple Triad into Tetra Master for Final Fantasy 9, a version that was similarly fun but didn't gain the following of its predecessor.

Queen's Blood proved to be an instant classic in Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth because it feels like an actual spiritual successor to Triple Triad. The games are very similar, focusing on tactical positioning and resource management to outmaneuver an opponent. Expanding on the minigame with even more cards, unique rules, and rewards could further incentivize players to learn and enjoy Queen's Blood.

Queen's Blood proved so popular that many fans lobbied to have it released as a standalone title. There's certainly precedent for such a move given Gwent's popularity in The Witcher 3 leading to its subsequent spinoff, but Square Enix has yet to announce any such plans. One can only hope that the next chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy delivers an even better version of the minigame.
