Mayor of Kingstown showrunner Hugh Dillon has teased what could happen next in a potential season 4, as well as how Mike's story is going to evolve if the series moves forward. Mayor of Kingstown season 3 ended with plenty of stories wrapped up, including the deaths of many major characters, like Milo, Kareem, and Iris. The events that unfolded and the subsequent deaths will likely have an impact on Mike, who is debating how good he truly is, and whether his role is more than just paying for his past.

Speaking with Variety, Dillon, who also plays Ian, indicated what could be expected in a potential Mayor of Kingstown season 4, including how Mike's story might evolve. The showrunner teased that, despite the many dark events that have transpired over the course of the series, there might still be some hope Mike can make a compromise with coming to terms with forgiving himself. Check out what Dillon had to say below:

It’s a bit cliché, but from your mouth to God’s ears. I think it’s a thing that we all hold onto, so we don’t just give up. So many of us and the characters are predisposed to their darker impulses, and they’re very desensitized. But you’ve got to have hope. That’s what it is. It’s going back to hoping that Iris can make it out. And hoping that Kyle [Taylor Handley] can have a better life than [his brother] Mike has. It’s all those family issues, and how do you absorb loss and defeat and compromise? That is the crux.

How Mike’s Story Could Evolve In Mayor Of Kingstown Season 4

He'll Have To Fight Back Against Death & Darkness

Close

Season 3 of the crime thriller clarified more about Mike’s intentions in his mediator role, revealing how he’s still searching for a deeper meaning behind it despite how long he’s held it for. While Mayor of Kingstown season 4 hasn’t been confirmed yet, the latest episode sets the stage for him to look at his job through a different lens moving forward. While tragic and dark events are bound to continue given the nature of the town, it’s something he can still try to escape from, no matter how difficult doing so might be.

Despite trying to see some hope in the dark, though, Mike is likely to be shattered by the news that both Kareem and Iris are dead, the latter especially given everything he'd done trying to protect her. This will probably result in a new version of him evolving in season 4, as he tries to balance his grief with both his job and attempts to find a silver lining. While this could make the next batch of episodes his darkest so far, he could also come out the other side a changed person.

However, with everything Mike's lost up to this point, he'll likely be doing everything he can to protect Kyle, Bunny, and everyone close to him that still remains. This could make Mayor of Kingstown season 4 incredibly tense, especially if situations arise that are more dire than anything he's dealt with before. Because of how much he'll no doubt be going through if the show comes back, his storyline likely has many more twists and turns in it as his role keeps evolving.
