Because it functions more as a general preview of the upcoming Max programming, the latest Welcome to Derry teaser doesn't give too much away. But there are a few key focuses. One character is heard saying: “This ain’t America. This is Derry.” Elsewhere in the preview, several characters are seen screaming, and a few seem to be covered in blood. There's also one character sporting a sinister smile while standing in a store.
The confirmed cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, and Skarsgård in main roles, in addition to recurring actors Rudy Mancuso, Alixandra Fuchs, Kimberly Guerrero, Dorian Grey, Joshua Odjick, Thomas Mitchell, BJ Harrison, Shane Marriott, Chad Rook and Morningstar Angeline. Welcome to Derry is similarly stacked behind the camera. Skarsgård executive produces, with It producer Jason Fuchs and Tokyo Vice's Brad Caleb Kane serving as co-showrunners.

Andy Muschietti directs four of the nine episodes, which look to tap into the unease and quiet terror that defines Derry even beyond Pennywise. It's too early to say, ultimately, whether the prequel will be a coming-of-age story with occasional scary moments. But based on the latest trailer at least, HBO is signaling at something darker for Welcome to Derry.
