Woof-derful!
Classic Watchmen story retold with canine characters, including Ruffschach and Ozymuttdias. Pawsitively hilarious!
Spoof stays true to original plot but adds dog puns and visual gags. A barking good time for all fans!
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Super-Pets Special: Bitedenity Crisis #1!A hilarious new parody is giving the groundbreaking superhero story Watchmen a makeover that's just doggone fun. There's hardly a comic book reader alive who isn't at least aware of the classic series. A new comedic take on Watchmen is certain to have even the most hardened fan howling with laughter.
In Super-Pets Special: Bitedentity Crisis' story, "Who Woofs the Woofmen" by Kyle Starks, Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' seminal story is retold with a cast of dogs. The Pomeranian is killed and Ruffschach investigates the crime, bringing him back into contact with his allies Bird Dog, Silk Saluki, Doctor Mastiffhattan, and Ozymuttdias.
The plot is exactly the same as the original story, only Ozymuttdias' plan to unite the world isn't with a giant squid, but rather, a giant cat. It's the Watchmen fans know, just with way more puns that animal lovers are certain to get a kick out of.
"Who Woofs the Woofmen" is a Paws-Itively Hilarious Watchmen Spoof
Watchmen is a 12-issue miniseries that's credited with helping usher in the Modern Age of Comic Books. It's a story that's consistently topped numerous 'best of' lists and is seen as one of the best superhero stories of all time. Watchmen has been an evergreen hit for DC Comics, which has expanded on the world through additional stories and miniseries such as the Before Watchmen line and Rorschach. While Watchmen stood on its own for years, DC Comics brought several of its characters to the DC Universe in an official crossover with Doomsday Clock and later, Flashpoint Beyond.
While some fans may disagree with DC's continued use of the Watchmen property, this tongue-in-cheek parody is just plain funny. Not only are there so many dog puns for fans of wordplay, there's a lot of really great visual jokes. Instead of building an intricate glass palace on Mars, Doctor Mastiffhattan creates a doghouse. To disarm Bird Dog and Ruffschach, Ozymuttdias tricks them with the old 'fake ball throw' gag dog owners everywhere have tried once or twice on their canines. It doesn't take the concept of Watchmen too seriously and just has fun with its animal-based hijinx.
This Watchmen Parody is Barking Up the Right Tree
Good parodies come from a place of love and it's clear that Starks loves dogs, cheesy jokes and puns, and Watchmen. Few might have thought to put all these elements together, but Starks did and the result is one of the funniest spoofs on Moore and Gibbons' classic work. Sure, Watchmen is an amazing work, but that doesn't mean it can't be playfully poked at with a clever and cute parody. Whether someone has read Watchmen dozens of times or just knows the gist of it, "Who Woofs the Woofmen" is certain to tickle any reader's funny bone.
