Former Power Rangers star Ludi Lin has reflected on the 2017 movie and what could have happened during a potential sequel, explaining his thoughts on how the story could continue. Lin portrayed Zack Taylor, the Black Ranger, in the high-budget remake of the original series, which was meant to be the first in a multi-movie storyline. The end of Power Rangers hinted at what ideas could have appeared in a sequel, with Tommy Oliver being teased for the next movie. However, due to poor box office performance, nothing was made past the first installment.
Speaking with Screen Rant alongside Nicholas Raymond for their new movie The Art of Eight Limbs, Lin revealed his ideas for a sequel to Power Rangers, as well as thoughts on the original. The actor believes the movie was unique because of when it came out, while also teasing his ideas for Tommy Oliver and other parts of the canceled sequel. Check out what Lin had to say below:
Man, I really feel like - I know that I was really pitching Tommy. I feel like that movie was kind of, I know people say this a lot, I don't know if I'm just saying it as a cop-out right now, but it was ahead of its time. It was before the superhero craze, it was before the darker films that came along. And also when I thought of Tommy, I said, "You know, Tommy could be a girl in the next movie." I think nowadays they would've considered it but, again, I'm lucky enough to have really never had a bad experience on a movie set. And every single movie set, Nicholas [Hammond, his co-star in Art of Eight Limbs] and I were discussing before, people come together, gel together like a family, and then the family grows and bring[s] in people like yourself that we meet through the years. It just adds more dimension to the movie. And movies don't really ever die, because people keep watching them and reliving them. And I think that sequel is maybe in a multidimensional thing, it exists out there. But I'm excited to see what they do with it. I feel like there's so much creativity and people really digging into how to make the superhero genre, the action genres, the big tentpole genres interesting, exciting, new, fresh, creative. So I'm really excited to see what they do with it. And just like MK 2, it's going to be a totally different ballgame.
More to come...
