My Hero Academia Celebrates Its Ending In the Best Possible Way With New Global Popularity Poll

My Hero Academia is celebrating the ending of its ten-year-long story in the best way possible with the launch of a global character popularity poll. Over the last decade, Kohei Horikoshi's beloved superhero tale has amassed a worldwide following, and Shueisha's latest initiative will finally allow every single fan of the series to vote for their favorite characters one last time.

My Hero Academia's publisher, Shueisha recently announced that the series will be hosting a worldwide online character popularity poll titled, "World's Best Hero." The poll will be conducted on a special website for the same and the first stage of voting will be open from August 5, 2024, to September 30, 2024, until 11:59 p.m. JST.

The first stage of the poll is set to narrow down nearly 278 characters down to three for the second stage, after which fans will be able to vote for their favorite character among the top three once again. The winner of the popularity poll will be given the title of "The MHA" and will receive a special illustration by Kohei Horikoshi which will serve as the basis for a commemorative statue.

Besides being open to fans around the world, the poll offers a choice of 278 characters that fans can vote for, including various pro-heroes, villains, former One For All users, and students of Class 1-A and Class 1-B. Fans can also vote for other U.A. students and teachers, students from other schools such as Shiketsu High, and even minor characters like Eri and Tenko's pet dog Mon.

Voting will be split into two stages, the first stage allowing fans to vote once a day. The results of the first stage, titled the "Main Stage" will be announced on December 2, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. JST on Shonen Jump's YouTube channel via a live stream, after which the second and final stage of voting will be open for 24 hours.

Popularity rankings both worldwide and region-wise will be updated weekly, every Monday on the website during the first stage of voting.

The second stage of voting, titled the "Plus Ultra Stage", will be open until December 3, 2024, 7:59 p.m. JST, during which fans can vote once every hour up to 12 times, for their favorite among the top 3 characters from the first stage. The results and ultimate winner of the poll will again be broadcast on Shonen Jump's Official YouTube channel on December 3, 2024, at 9:30 p.m. JST.

Overall, it is pretty rare for a manga to involve its international audience on such a grand scale. Most character popularity polls are usually conducted within Japan, leaving international fans out of the loop. As such, the fact that My Hero Academia has taken on such a grand initiative openly acknowledges its fan base across the world, which is quite a welcome change.

My Hero Academia has received plenty of love from readers around the world over the last ten years and hopefully, its mainstream popularity means it won't be too long until Kohei Horikoshi will not hesitate to share more of his stories with the world in the future.
